Jimmy Lowe

Funeral Service for Jimmy Lowe, 85 of Wister, Oklahoma will be at 10am on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at Evans and Miller Chapel in Poteau, Oklahoma with Bryan Fouts officiating. Burial will follow at Ellis Chapel Cemetery in Wister, Oklahoma under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home

He was born on April 2, 1937 in Wister, Oklahoma to Otis Minnie Lee McDonald and Harrison Lowe and passed away on July 29, 2022 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marcia Lowe; daughter-in-law, Dustie Lowe.

Survivors include: 4 children; daughter, Leanne Thompson and husband Jack; daughter, Gayle Barnard and husband Luke; son, James Lowe and wife Anna; son,Tracy Lowe; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; sister Shirley Johnston, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and loved ones.  

Jimmy lived in California he retired, and moved back to Panama. He came from a big family of 10 children, 5 brothers, and 4 sisters. He was a Deacon for 30yrs, taught Sunday school, served on many church boards, and in the children orphanage for many years.  

Pallbearers will be James Donald Lowe, Mathew Lowe, Adam Eden, Michael Lowe, Seth Lowe, and Timothy Eden.

Honorary Pallbearers will be James Dale Lowe, Aiden Lowe, Eric Eden, Keith Thompson, Jonathan Thompson, and Christian Lowe.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8pm.



 

Raft Evans

 Raft Evans, 58 of Pocola, Oklahoma. Cremation under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home.

Raft was born on January 22, 1964 in Ojai, California to Rita Marie (Shilling) Evans and John Robert Evans and passed away on July 24, 2022 in Fort Smith, Arkansas.  He was preceded in death by his father, John Evans.
Survivors include: daughters, Kayleigh Skaggs, Tara Spangler-Evans, and Jessica Evans; mother Rita Marie Evans; grandchildren, Delilah Dixon, Kenleigh Dixon, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and loved ones.

Lilia Flores

On July 23, 2022, Lilia Flores passed away peacefully in her sleep at their home in Monroe, OK.  

Lilia is survived by her husband Florinio (Ronnie); her daughters Jennifer-Lynn Cauthen with husband Timothy and Jessica Jaymalin with husband Robert; her grandchildren Allen Cauthen, Shelby Ingle, Ashley Cauthen, Ariana Jaymalin, Alyssa Jaymalin and Andrew Jaymalin; great grandchildren, Tate Ingle, Cole Ingle, and Amelie Cauthen; her brothers Francisco Faustino, Jr. and Noel Faustino. She was preceded in death by her parents Francisco Sr. and Gregoria Faustino, and her brother Rolando Faustino 

Lilia married her childhood sweetheart Ronnie on Christmas Eve in New York City. They were stationed in Honolulu before they welcomed their first daughter, Jennifer, in Pensacola, FL.  They welcomed their second daughter, Jessica, while they were stationed in Charleston, SC. She worked in cancer research at the Medical University South Carolina before they retired in the Philippines. 

Lilia loved traveling the world with her family. She enjoyed many adventures with Ronnie across the globe. When she wasn’t going on their trips, she was active in her church groups: Couples for Christ, Marriage Encounter, PREX (Parish Renewal Experience), CLAYE (Catholic Lay Evangelization) and their prayer meetings. Outside of serving in the church, she enjoyed playing card games and mahjong, as well as watching NBA games and tennis on TV. She had a daily devotion to the rosary, the chaplet of Divine Mercy and attending mass on EWTN. 

There will be no viewing. The interment will be at the Immaculate Conception Church Columbarium in Fort Smith, AR on Thursday, July 28th at 10am. In remembrance of Lilia’s life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to St. Jude’s Medical Research Hospital, in lieu of flowers.

 

Ovil Brand

Funeral Service for Ovil Brand, 81 of Monroe, Oklahoma will be at 10am on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Howe Missionary Baptist in Howe, Oklahoma with Larry Stacey officiating. Burial will follow at Vaughn Cemetery in Gilmore, Oklahoma under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home

Ovil was born on August 5, 1940 in Monroe, Oklahoma to Opal (Mays) Brand and Arvil Brand and passed away on July 24, 2022 in Howe, Oklahoma.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mildred Faye Brand; one sister; one daughter, Kim Albert.

Survivors include: son, Mark and wife Kally Brand; 4 sisters; 3 brothers; 7 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and loved ones.

Pallbearers will be Melford Brand, Edward Brand, Mark Brand, Keith Shelton, Elden Dugan, Bruce Lynch.

Glenn "Poncho" Newburn


 Funeral Service for Glenn Edwin "Poncho" Newburn, 73 of Red Oak, Oklahoma will be at 10am on Monday, July 25, 2022 at Bethal Baptist Church in Wister, Oklahoma with Tracy Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Maxey Cemetery in Wister, Oklahoma under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home.

Glenn Edwin “Poncho” Newburn was born on July 31, 1948 in Poteau, Oklahoma to Glen and Mary (Boyer) Newburn and passed from this life on July 15, 2022.

Poncho married Janice (Lyons) Newburn on August 27, 1968. Together they shared almost 54 years.

He loved history, genealogy, and arrowhead hunting. He was the Chaplain for the Sons of Confederate Veterans for the Poteau Chapter. He served as a deacon at the United Freewill Baptist Church in Red Oak.

Poncho’s welding career spanned over 43yrs starting in the shipyards in Port Arthur, Texas where he helped construct the famous “Zapata Ugland” one of the largest semi-submersible off shore drilling rig that was towed from Port Arthur, Texas to the North Sea; Aberdeen, Scotland.
He was an accomplished Christian song writer and won many awards finally competing at the 700 Club in Virginia Beach. Above all he loved his Lord and Savior and spent many hours in bible study and prayer. It was his main desire to be a friend and to reach others for Christ.

Glenn is survived by his wife Janice; son Joe Newburn and wife Stacy of Wilburton; 2 grandchildren, Aaron and Brenna Newburn of Red Oak; granddaughter Kodi Newburn of Wilburton; 2 great grandchildren, Denham Newburn, and Berklee Ogden; sister, Carolyn Fulsom and husband Walter; and very special mentor and friend in Christ, Bill Hardin; along with a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Ariel Lynn Cardenas

Funeral Service for Ariel Lynn Cardenas, 30 of Fort Smith, Arkansas will be at 2pm on Friday, July 22, 2022 at Church of Nazarene in Poteau, Oklahoma with Jim Cook, Marie Akins officiating. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Poteau, Oklahoma under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home.

Ariel was born on January 14, 1992 in Poteau, Oklahoma to Crystal (Ward) Fout and Ricky Cardenas and passed away on July 16, 2022 in Poteau, Oklahoma.  She was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Jesse and Anna Mae Ward of Poteau, Oklahoma; aunt, Jeri Maler of Poteau, Oklahoma.

Ariel was learning the guitar and piano. She loved to paint and draw and make beautiful works of art. (Lots of Rainbows) She wanted every day to be an adventure and never was scared of a challenge. She never got enough of being with her friends or family, and taking on the phone for hours to anyone who wanted to share their life with her. She joined the healing tree and was going to help so many people as a clinical mental health counselor. She would always make new friends everywhere we went. Her bubbly personality and beautiful soul always made her the life of the party. Multiple times a day she would squeeze and kiss and love on her dog Abraham Maslow. She brought so much joy to everyone she ever met. She will never be forgotten and will always be in our hearts. - My love always Christopher

Ariel was a very loving and kind person beautiful inside and out she never knew a stranger even as a child. She has such a passion of life, and living it to the fullest. She enjoyed music, movies, outings, playing games and cards, swimming, kayaking, but mostly she enjoyed spending her time with her fiancĂ© Chris, family, friends, and her beloved pup Maslow. She was a hard worker she achieved every goal she made for herself including a master’s degree in psychology (counseling), graduating with honors. Although her time here on earth was short, she touched so many lives and hearts. She will never be forgotten. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She's in a better place now and we will most definitely see her again. -My love forever Mom and Dad

Cherry Ann Patterson, 74 of Spiro, Oklahoma.  Cremation under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home.

Cherry was born on December 24, 1947 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Virginia Mozell Gibson (Ashing) and John Allen Gibson and passed away on July 16, 2022 in Poteau, Oklahoma.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Patterson; Virginia Meisenheimer, Debbie Kaler, Pat Frank Chuck, Dorothy Meisenheimer, Opal Ashing, Charlene J. Gaurd, Ashing Cathy Fleetwood; Cherry Loved animals and plants, she was a member of the Baptist Church and Assembly of God in Panama. Her favorite thing to do for fun was gambling with her sissy at the Casino!

Margetta Rose Johnson was born on March 22, 1932 in Poteau, Oklahoma to Rosa B. (Qualls) Casey
 and Daniel B. Casey and passed away on July 15, 2022 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Margetta was preceded in death by her husband Ernest James Johnson of 70 years, one son Michael Ray Johnson, mother Rosa Casey, father Daniel Casey, two brothers James Walter Casey and Harvey Benton Casey, as well as many friends and relatives.


Margetta is survived by her two sons Ernest James Johnson Jr. and wife Patricia of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Gary Wayne Johnson and wife Robin of Tulsa, Oklahoma, a daughter-in-law Janet Sue Johnson of Tulsa, Oklahoma, eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren and may friends and relatives.

Donald was born on July 1, 1944 in Fayetteville, Arkansas to Roberta and Earl Woods and passed away on July 13, 2022 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sons, Jimmy Woods, and Marcus Luman.

Anna was born on March 29, 1956 in Ventura, CA to Gordon and Billie Jo Williams and passed away on July 13, 2022 in Poteau, Oklahoma.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne Earley; brother, Bill Williams, and longtime boyfriend, Lucian Gassaway. Anna was an LPN, a friend, attended church at Southside Baptist, she loved to spend time with friends laughing.

Sarah was born on September 24, 1986 in Talihina, Oklahoma to Betty (Ludlow) and Melvin G. Melton and passed away on July 3, 2022 in Poteau, Oklahoma.  She was preceded in death by brother, Harrison Melton; uncle, Jerry Melton; grandparents, Martson Ludlow, Serena McKinney, Benjamin and Dorthy Melton. Sarah lived her life doing what she loved most and that was taking care of her family cooking for them, and for whoever else was hungry. She enjoyed going on rides with her daughter Jessenia and hanging out with friends. Sarah had the biggest and kindest heart toward anyone she met she was the kind of person who welcomed you into her home anytime anyone needed help or a place to stay. She never treated anyone like a stranger in her eyes you were family. She leaves behind a loving husband, three wonderful children tons of family and friends. Pisa-chi-li-ke Chi-hvllo-li    She will be greatly missed by all who met her and loved by so many. Until we meet again. I Love you.

James Craig Hogan

Memorial Service for James Craig Hogan will be at 2pm on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at the Monroe Community Center in Monroe, Oklahoma.

James Craig Hogan of Howe, Oklahoma, passed away July 5, 2022, at the age of 72. He was born to James Houston Hogan and Christine (Gourley) Hogan at Eufaula, Oklahoma on August 11, 1949.

James spent his childhood traveling the world with his parents, his father being in the Air Force they lived overseas in England before moving back to the states to live in Humbolt, TX, before finally settling in Hitchita, OK. He joined the Army at the age of 17 and proudly served his country for 22 years with 7 years spent in Vietnam. After multiple marriages he settled in Checotah, OK to raise his two sons, where he met his wife Sarah Burns. Creating a blended family of 5 children they relocated to Poteau, OK before finally moving to Howe to spend the rest of their lives together.

James loved coaching football and softball at the PARC. He was a Poteau Pirate Band Booster, driving the bus and enjoying the shows. Throughout the years many of his children, friends and loved ones would come through the door saying "Mom, Dad, I'm home". He welcomed these bonus children with open arms. He will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his wife Sarah Lynn Hogan; Daughters Cassandra Buck and husband Charles, and Marcella Arie; Sons Daniel Hogan and wife Patti, Eric Hogan and wife Kim, Frank Arie and wife Starla, 18 Grandchildren Talon Seth, Hayden, Bryson, Nakaya,  Shaylynn, Jared, Joshua, Jacob, Cody, Landon, and Fallon Hogan, Areli, Victor, and Gabi Reyes, Lilly Wagner, Briscoe, Legend, and Charlie Arie; Sister Jimmy Taylor; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Jeff and Carl David; and Grandson Stacie.

Jason was born on January 25, 1972 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Judy Ann (Cripps) Lovett and William Ellis Boman and passed away on July 1, 2022 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mary and Raymond Cripps of Wister, and Ben and Fay Boman of Talahina.

Funeral Service for Norris John Smith will be at 10am on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at Faith Baptist in Watson, Oklahoma with Todd Webb, Ed Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Octavia Cemetery in Octavia, Oklahoma under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home.

Norris John Smith of Octavia, Oklahoma, passed away July 3, 2022, at the age of 77. He was born to William J. Smith and Juanita Benton Smith at Idabel Oklahoma on March 14, 1945.
Norris John was a logger by trade. He worked in Colorado for many years, in addition to working in Oklahoma and Arkansas. Norris John Loved the Lord and attended faithfully as long as he was able. He served in the U.S. Army from 1967-1969 and was awarded the Purple Heart.

He is survived by brothers; Mark Smith and wife Cheryl of Octavia, Oklahoma, Luke Smith of Watson, Oklahoma, Niles Smith of Octavia, Oklahoma; sisters, Winona Rowland and husband Dudley of Mead, Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Katy Smith; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and loved ones.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Joseph Smith.

Helen was born on January 19, 1938 in Hackett, Arkansas to Lela (Hamilton) Peaslee and Aurthur Edwin Peaslee and passed away on June 30, 2022 in Poteau, Oklahoma.  She was married to Carol Layne Marvel on April 2, 1955 in Vallejo.
