Anna Flanary


                                 Anna Marie Flanary, 83, of Poteau, OK passed away Monday, June 29, 2015 in Poteau.  Anna was born March 17, 1932 in Bokoshe, OK to Riley & Ethel (Bowen) Barber.  She worked at EOMC.  Anna was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack; sons, Jackie Don and Jack Dewayne; great grandsons, Hunter Goines and Gage Pilkington; brothers, Pete Smith, Grady Mayo and Charlie Barber; sister, Alice Hyuck.



Survivors include her daughters, Barbara Flanary of Jonesboro, AR, Pam Pilkington of Wister, OK, Lottie Flanary of Poteau, OK,  Sherry & Dwayne Leatherwood of Howe, OK; son, Roger Flanary of Poteau, OK; grandchildren, Christopher Flanary, Brian, Misty and Keith Janway, Danny Pilkington, Joe Hardy, April Goines, Justin James, Kyle & Eric Leatherwood, Sarah Clark; numerous great grandchildren; other relatives, loved ones and friends.



Services will be 10 am, Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Rev. Jim Cook officiating.  Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Poteau.  Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Danny Pilkington, Kyle & Eric Leatherwood,  Chris Flanary, Joe Hardy and Justin James.

Douglas Tate




Douglas E. Tate, 71, of Shady Point, OK  passed away Friday, June 26, 2015  in Fort Smith, AR.   Douglas was born November 11, 1943 in Big Spring, TX to Oscar Tommy & Bennie Ruth (Lee) Tate.  He was drilling superintendent in the oil field.  He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar Tommy Tate; mother, Bennie Ruth (Lee) Holt

step-mother, Doris O. Tate; grandparents, Oscar Frank and Lillian Tate; sister, Tommie Ruth Roye; half sister, Barbara Holt Dolloff;  step-brother, Bobby Sartain  ; half-brother, Wesley Holt; nephew, Andy Roye; aunts, Lucille Borrows, Vena Hadley;  uncles, Melvin, Marvin and Vernon Tate.

Services will be 2 pm, Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Evans Chapel, Poteau, OK with
Rev. Jim Cook officiating.  The family will be at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm to visit with relatives & friends.

Neal Doggett



    Winston O'Neal "Neal" Doggett Jr., 71,  of Poteau, OK passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2015 in Poteau.  Neal was born December 8, 1943 in Ft. Worth, TX to Winston O'Neal Sr. & Virginia Scott Doggett.  Neal was a veteran of the US Navy.  He was a retired line operator at Bremner  and also General Motors.  Neal had such a heart for his family, totally devoted to his children and all his grandchildren.  He was loved by so many for his random theatrics to his silly humor he enjoyed making people laugh and loved to laugh himself.  His family will always remember his one-eye closed smile and his sitcom one liners.  Neal was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Barbara Plummer.

     Survivors include his daughter & son in law, Sandra Lynn & Joseph Lynn Skinner of Poteau, OK; son & daughter in law, Christopher O'Neil & Brook Doggett of San Angelo, TX; grandchildren, Alyxandra  Doggett, Dylan Fifield, Kynden Skinner, Mayzie, Zoey and Jaxtyn Doggett; nephew; Kerry Plummer; niece Sissy Leonard;  the mother of his children, Sherrie Kay Michelson of Independence, MO; other relatives, loved ones and many friends.

     Services will be 10 am, Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Rev. Jim Cook officiating.  Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Poteau.  Pallbearers will be Joseph Skinner, Dylan Fifield, Christopher Doggett, Kerry Plummer, Kyler Plummer and Dwayne Leonard.

   In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the DAV .



The family will be at the funeral  home on Monday evening from 6-8 pm  to visit with relatives & friends.

Grace Sue Turner



Grace Sue Turner, Age 104, Marshfield, Missouri, passed away June 20, 2015 in Mercy Hospital, Springfield, Missouri. She was born March 28, 1911 in Monroe, Oklahoma, the daughter of  Edgar and Allie Wise. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four sisters, five brothers, one daughter, one son-in-law, one granddaughter, one grandson and two great grandsons.
  
She was united in marriage on April 15, 1930 to Otis Burl Turner in Poteau, Oklahoma. They lived most of their married life in California and enjoyed thirty-six years together before he passed away. At age fifty-five she became an avid golfer both as a player and fan. Gardening was one of her favorite pastimes when she wasn't golfing. She loved to travel and being with her family. In later years she decided to make her home in Missouri to be closer to her youngest daughter and family.
 
She is survived by daughter Pat Stokes, Marshfield, Missouri; Reba (husband Bill) Judd, Downey, California; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; nineteen great great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and their families who she loved dearly.

Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday June 29, 2015 at Evans & Miller Funeral Home in Poteau, Oklahoma and burial will be at the cemetery in Monroe, Oklahoma.

Dartha Lucille Garner



Dartha Lucille Garner, 95, of Poteau, OK died peacefully in Palos Verdes, CA on Sunday February 22, 2015. She was born in Elmer, OK on July 1, 1919 and was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Zelmon Garner and her parents Josie and Charles Combs. She is survived by her three children, Grady Garner and wife Sharon of Poteau,; Jerry Garner and wife Anita of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA; Suzanne Garner  Manavian and husband John of Palos Verdes Estates, CA. ; eight grandchildren; Rhett (Tanya) Garner of Fayetteville, AR.; Jarot (Jona) Garner of Fayetteville, AR.; Seth (Jessie) Garner of Fayetteville, AR. Jordan (Leslie) Manavian of Los Angeles, CA., Taylor Manavian of Redondo Beach, CA., Cameron (Jane) Manavian, of Sherman Oaks, CA., Graham Garner of Los Angeles, CA. and Katherine Garner of Redondo Beach, CA., and eight great grandchildren; Cross, Crew, and Casha Garner (Jarot’s); Caleb, Gracie, and Cam Garner (Seth’s), Major Manavian (Jordan’s), and Wylder Garner (Graham’s).
Dartha attended Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State University) where she met and then married Zelmon. During and after Zelmon’s service in World War II they lived and worked in several different states. In 1946, they settled in Zelmon’s hometown of Wister before moving to Poteau In 1951. Dartha was foremost a homemaker, mother, wife and community volunteer. Her interests included being the  superintendent of the primary department of Poteau First Methodist Church, President of PTA, Senior High youth counselor for the Methodist Church, member of the board of directors for Poteau Youth Center, President of WSCS and the Federated Missionary Society, member of the ESA and other church and civic work projects. Dartha always loved to help plan and organize activities at the First Methodist Church of Poteau. She served on both local and state committees. Dartha loved the friendly people of Poteau so very much. She cherished her friends and with them she enjoyed playing bridge, cooking and entertaining, as well as attending many high-school and college sporting events. She and Zelmon extensively traveled throughout the world but also enjoyed the simple pleasures of camping and fishing.
 In 2004, Dartha moved to the Palos Verdes Peninsula and for the next 10 years enjoyed getting to know her five West Coast grandchildren, all Peninsula High School graduates. For six of these years she was a resident of Belmont Assisted Living where she made many new friends. Although Dartha lived in California for enough years to legally become a “Californian” she was always an “Oklahoman”’ in her heart and proud of it!
On June 27th, she will be buried, next to her husband Zelmon, after a memorial service at her beloved First Methodist Church in Poteau, Oklahoma, Saturday morning at 10 am.
