Ruby Nell Jenson


 Ruby Nell Jenson, 90, of Poteau, OK passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2021 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Ruby Nell was born April 27, 1930 in Wister, OK to Finis & Dora (Fuller) Wann.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill Jenson and daughter, Elizabeth Lindsay.

 Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl Quinley; grandson, Ryan Quinley; granddaughter Miranda Lindsay & husband Casey; other relatives loved ones and friends

Leonard Hill Jr.


Leonard Harold Hill Jr., 74, of Panama, OK passed away Sunday, January 24, 2021 at his home.  Leonard was born April 7, 1946 in Elk City, OK to Leonard Sr. & Leota (White) Hill.  He was a veteran of the US Navy serving in Vietnam retiring as Chief Petty Officer after 25 years in service.  His hobbies were watching NASCAR, football and boxing.  His grand & great grandchildren were his greatest joy.  Leonard was preceded in death by his son, Scott Saling, Grandson, David R. Payton Jr. and brother in law, Pete Bullock.

 Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Ava of the home; daughters, Gaye & Shawn McGuinness of Commerce, GA, Gina & Rod Birckel of Porum, OK; sons, Shane Saling of Spiro and Robin Hill; sisters, Linda & Bill Miller of McCloud, Lavera & Richard Deramo of Houston, TX, Linette Bullock of Harrah, OK; grandchildren, Justin & Erika Hendren, Leota Nicole & Hunter Lane, Sha & Trey Upton, Austin & Tara Kennedy, Chad Eatmon, Allyn Saling; great grandchildren, Jasmin, Jaiya, Leonard Jermiah Hendren, Krsna Hutson, Morrison Stone, Jessie, Hazel and Madysen Kennedy.

Services will be 10 am  Monday, February 1, 2021 at Evans Chapel of Memories with Jim Cook officiating. Interment will be at Fort Smith National Cemetery at 2 pm.  The family will be at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 pm  to visit with relatives & friends.

Billy Gibson

 

Billy Gibson (“Little Bill”) a resident of Wister, Oklahoma died January 25, 2021. He was born on Christmas Day, 1960 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas to Iva (Adams) Gibson and Julian Riley Gibson. He was raised by Rose and Delmar Hicks (his paternal Aunt and Uncle).

He was preceded in death by these family members and also Larry Gibson, a brother and Jane (Gibson) Hiddle, a sister and a dear friend Cassandra Smith.

He is survived by one brother Frank and wife Ava Gibson of Sibley, Missouri and a Foster Brother, Larry Don Griffin of Wister.

Sisters, Mary Hubbard and husband Kenny Hubbard of Roland, Oklahoma, Hazel Hefley (preceded in death by her husband Calvin Hefley), and Dorothye (Gibson) Farrar and husband Steven of Ketchum, Oklahoma

He is survived by a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He is survived by a multitude of dear friends who will forever cherish memories of good times and laughter. Billy never met a stranger. He enjoyed hunting and anything to do with “old timey” things. He grew up at the Wister sale barn and that was his self-declared home his entire life.  

A celebration of life service is planned for Saturday, January 30 at 10 am  at Ellis Chapel in Wister, Oklahoma. (masks are welcomed and we will socially distance for any concerned). Interment will be at a later date at the Ellis Chapel cemetery, also in Wister. Flowers may be brought or sent directly to the Chapel on Friday evening or Saturday Morning. Donations in Lieu of flowers may be forwarded to Barbara McCollom at 405 US Hwy 271, Wister, 74966 to support the Ellis Chapel Cemetery Fund. There will be a time of sharing during the service so bring your favorite “Bill” story.

 

CAROLYN ANN GUTIERREZ

        Carolyn Ann Gutierrez, 72, of Poteau, OK passed away Saturday, January 23, 2021 in Poteau.  Carolyn was born March 29, 1948 in Fort Smith, AR.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Virginia (Riggins) & Doug Wann; her mother & father in law, Mary & Foster Cochran; brothers in law, Vincent & Richard Cochran; sister, Sandra Misener.                        She is survived by her sister & husband, Judy & Gary Moore of Wister, OK; brother, Jeff Tinder of OKC, OK; daughters & spouses, Kim & Fred Allison of Poteau, OK, Kelly & Shannon Cochran-Yzquierdo of Alexandria, VA, Angie Monges & David Watson of Livermore, CA; grandchildren & spouses, Tara & Lee Lawson, Courtney & Brandon Severe, Ariana & Jordan Mocny, Alia Monges, Analy Monges, Jessi Watson and Wyatt Watson; great grandchildren, Daxton Severe, Hunter Severe, Leilana Mocny; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

           Thank you staff at the Oaks for being her family when we couldn’t be there.  A special thanks to Jolee Shrock for loving my mom.

Danny Kennedy

Danny Kennedy, 75,  of Ft. Smith, AR passed away Friday, January 22, 2021 in Ft. Smith.  Services will be 2 pm, Thursday, January 28 at Bonanza Assembly of God, Bonanza, AR.  Burial will be 2 pm, Friday at Mt Olive Cemetery, Healdton, OK.

          Danny was born April 25, 1945 in Ardmore, OK to Lou Allen & Audrey Anne (Morriss) Kennedy.  Danny graduated from Healdton HS and went to Southwestern State University in  Waxahchie, TX.  He started in ministry and founded a church in Bonanza in 1964.  He bought at motorhome to travel and evangelize.  Danny had a real shepherd’s  heart to take care of the flock in church and whether you knew him from school, church or met on the street he had an open door for any need you might have.

 Survivors include his children, Michelle Murphy, Melanie Black, Melissa Kennedy and Michael Kennedy; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Services will be 2 pm Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Bonanza Assembly of God.  Burial will be 2 pm, Friday at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Healdton, OK.

Elizabeth Martin


Elizabeth C. Martin, 94, of Poteau, OK passed away Sunday, January 24, 2021 in Poteau.  Elizabeth was born February 10, 1926 in Bennington, OK to Virgil & Maggie (Avants) Fulfer.  Elizabeth was an exceptional horticulturist; she loved animals; did missionary work in Guyana, South  America.  She was an accomplished artist with oil paints. She moved from Oklahoma to southern California at the age of 7 and returned at the age of 89.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Oren Martin; her parents; sons in law, Michael Denison & Randel Lamirande; brothers, Ed & Coy Fulfer; sisters, Olean, Vaeta, Jan, Jean, Patricia & Barbara.

 She is survived by her son, Steve & Shannon (Vest) Martin of Ojai, CA; grandchildren, Wendy (Martin) & Jason Waudby of Boise, ID, Kyle & Lindy (Mapes) Martin of Honolulu, HI, Zach Martin of Ojai, CA; daughter, Sherri (Martin) Lamirande of Poteau, OK; grandchildren, Shannon Denison Lamirande of McKinney, TX, Randel & Donnie (Covey) Lamirande of Brighten, CO;  great grandchildren, 5 girls and 3 boys.
