Betty Smith

 Betty Nell Smith, 73, of Poteau, OK  passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017 in Little Rock, AR.  Betty was born June 3, 1943 in Monroe, OK to John Roy & Alline (Wise) Bandy.  She was manager /coordinator at the nutrition center.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Billy Jack Smith Sr.; sons, Billy Jack Smith Jr. and John Smith.

Survivors include her daughter & son in law, Regina & Steve Peck; 5 grandchildren, Dalton, Joshua, Jacob, Kinsey and Conner; sister, Jeanette Chronister; daughter in law, Ramona Smith; brothers & sister in law, LeeRoy and Gayle Bandy, Howard Bandy; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Services will be 10 am, Wednesday, March 29, 2017 in Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK .  Interment will follow in Monroe Cemetery, Monroe, OK.  The family will be at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm  to visit with relatives & friends.

Carl King

Carl Archie King, 96, of Poteau, OK passed away Saturday, March 25, 2017 in Poteau.  Carl was born June 10, 1920 in Waldron , AR to Wilson James & Kelly (Parker) King.    Carl was raised in Heavener, OK where he was an outstanding athlete in football, basketball and track.  WWII interrupted his first year in college.  He joined the US Army and became a bridge builder for the 322nd Combat Engineer Battalion in 1942.  He was at Normandy and Bastogne in France  and in Germany.  After the war he married Mary Louise Barnhill of Poteau, OK in 1946.  They had a daughter, Carla one year later and a son Larry one year after that.  They lived in the Bay Area of California until 1991.  When Carl and Louise retired and returned to the place they loved - Poteau, OK.  They were both active in the Howe Senior Center. Carl was well known for his wonderful sense of humor.   Mary Louise passed away in 2011.  He was also preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ruth Stuart & daughter, Carla in 1993.

Survivors include his son, Larry King of Poteau, OK; brother, Wilson King of Poteau; sister, Betty Dean of Brentwood, CA; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Services will be 2 pm, Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Evans Chapel of Memories.  Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Poteau.

Donald Frank Hickman

Donald Frank Hickman, 74, of Poteau, OK passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2017  at his home  in Poteau.  Donald was born January 7, 1943 in Howe, OK to Daniel Frank & Ruby Bell (Alkire) Hickman.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon of the home; sons & daughters in law, Steve & Karen of Princeton, KY, David & Olivia of  Tulsa, OK; grandchildren,  Ashley, Micah, Blaine, Daniel, Malerie and Arianna; great grandchildren, Kylee and Annsley; sister & brother in law, Barbara & Donald Hinds of Heavener, OK; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Services will be 2 pm, Monday, March 27, 2017 at the First Free Will Baptist Church, Poteau,  OK with Rev. Cory Thompson & Rev. Jim Cook officiating.  Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Poteau.  Pallbearers will be Blaine Hickman, Matt Crutchfield, Jimmy Curran, Tony Slone, Bob Craig, Jim Craig.  Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Henson, Brandon Slone, Leo Ritter and Daniel Hickman.

The family will be at the funeral home on  Sunday afternoon from 2-4 pm to visit with relatives & friends.

Bobby Hales

Bobby Hales, 75, of Poteau, OK passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2017 in Poteau.  Bobby was born January 3, 1942 in Warren, AR.  He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty & his parents, William & Audrey Hales.

Survivors include his wife, Anita (Johnson) Hales,  (married June 13, 2003);  2 sons, Jason Hales of Little Rock, AR, Rocky Hales of Maine;  stepdaughters, Sherri  & Don of Sarcoxie, MO, Patricia  Oliver of Panama, OK, Carla & Bob Hill of Poteau, Kristi  & Ray Marshal of Monroe; stepson, Ben Jr. & Brandy Johnson of Guthrie, OK;  brother Arthur Hales & wife Evelyn of NM,  Sisters, Barbra & Wade, Linda all of Little Rock, AR.; nephew, David Hales;  16 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; other relatives,  loved ones and friends.

Memorial services will be 4:30 pm, Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau with Rev. Les Scroggins officiating.

Tuffy Davis

James N. "Tuffy"  Davis, 58, of Howe, OK passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2017 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Tuffy was born July 26, 1958 in Texarkana, TX to James & Ruby (Halford) Davis.  He was a carpenter.  He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Shirley Gill  & Carolyn Henry; brother, Wayne Friend.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie of the home; daughter Kellie & Kyle Trotter of Poteau, OK; sons, Randall & Wylene Davis of Pawhuska, OK, T.J. & Katrina Holt of Grove, OK, Cody Holt of Monroe, OK; grandchildren, Allie, Aubree, Rilyn, Ty, Kayleigh, Kieran, Jaelan and Ketch; brothers, Lee & Anita Davis of Redwater, TX, Terry & Becky Davis of Shady Point, OK; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Services will be 10 am, Friday, March 24, 2017 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Jim Cook officiating.  Interment will follow in Vaughn Cemetery, Gilmore, OK.

Vernon Treadway

Vernon Clark Treadway, 56, of Ft. Smith, AR passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017 in Ft. Smith.  Vernon was a self employed contractor.  Vernon was deeply loved and will be missed every day.  He was a blessing to all who knew him and one crazy son of a gun.

He is survived by his son, Dustin Treadway of Arkoma, OK;  daughters, Joe Ellen Branham of Port St. Lucie, FL, Pam Branch of Pocola, OK; granddaughters, Hailey Treadway and Skye Treadway; grandson, Mitchell Branch; sisters, Sharon Reed of Ft. Smith, AR, Rhonda Miller of Canton, GA, Carla Treadway of Ft. Smith, AR; brother, Brian McAlister of Spiro, OK; several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Memorial services will be held at 1 pm, Friday, March 24, 2017 at Evans Memorial Chapel in Pocola, OK. 

Nancy Jane Steelman

Nancy Jane Steelman, 54, of  Monroe, OK passed away Friday, March 17, 2017 in Monroe.  Nancy was born July 19, 1962 in Poteau, OK to Andrew Jackson & Wanda Ora (McKinney) Wilson.  She worked at Bonnie's  Plants.

Survivors include her daughter, Jennifer Thornburg of Howe, OK; 5 grandchildren, Niki Goodin, Brock, Laynee, Corlyn & Britlynn Thornburg; 2 sisters,  Patsy McKenzie Collins & Janet Yocham of Monroe, OK; 3 brothers, Donnie Wilson of Hisperia, CA, Rick Wilson & A.J. Wilson of Monroe, OK; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Services will be 10:30 Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Monroe Cemetery Pavilion, Monroe, OK with Rev. Clyde Steelman officiating.  Pallbearers will be Russell Wilson, Matt Lovell, Dustin Thornburg and Colten Meeks.
