Leon Remer

 Leon  Remer, 75, of McAlester, OK passed away Saturday, August 20, 2016 in Keota, OK.  Leon was born February 24, 1941 in Spiro, OK to Fred James & Helen (Williams) Remer.  He was a sales clerk for Davis Bldgs.  Leon was a veteran of the Army National Guard.
        Survivors include his wife, Margaret Jane Remer of the home; children, Glenn Powers, Ricky Powers, Tannyia Crase; 8 grandchildren, Dustin Powers, Clayton Powers, Lacey Reed, Mandi Harris, Allen Arter, Amber Simpson, Brittni Chronister, Bradlee Chronister; 13 great grandchildren; sister, Edwina Burroughs; special aunt & uncle, Lonnie & Betty Davis; special cousin, Ray Davis;  other relatives, loved ones and friends.

      A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:30 pm, Friday evening at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK.  Please feel free to dress in your OU 'gear'. Leon would love it.

Roy David Ford



Roy David Ford, 75, of Wister, OK passed away Friday, August 19, 2016 in Wister.  Roy was born September 6, 1940 in Poteau, OK to John B. & Edith A. (Green) Ford.  He was a veteran of the US Army.  Roy attended the Church of God Seventh Day in Wister, OK.



Survivors include his sisters, Betty VanHook of Heavener, OK, Bonnie Brown of Poteau, OK & Lily Fitzpatrick; brothers, Jerry Ford of Poteau, Sam Ford of Wister, Charles Ford of Sallisaw, & Dennis Ford of Wister; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives & loved ones; many friends.



Services will be 2 pm, Tues. August 23 at Church of God Seventh Day, Wister, OK with Chip Hinds and Lamar Ford officiating.  Interment will be in Ellis Chapel Cemetery, Wister, OK.

Lovia Gilliam



Lovia Woods Gilliam, 91, of Bokoshe, OK passed away Friday, August 12, 2016 in Pocola, OK.  Lovia was born September 25,1924 in Stoney Point, OK to Charlie & Rose Lee (Harper) Woods.  She was a school cafeteria cook.    Lovia was a loving mother and grandmother.  She was known by everybody as "Granny".  Lovia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Guy; brothers Ed, Edgar, Harley & Earl.

     Survivors include her daughters, Betty Hemby of Heavener, OK, Janice England  and her daughter Faith of the home; sons, Jerry Gilliam of Howe, OK, Gerald Gilliam of Poteau, OK; 4 grandchildren, Sami Jo, Kelsey,  Kyle & Faith; 14 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; sister, Ola & Jim Wooten of Spiro, OK; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives & loved ones.

      Services will be 2 pm, Tuesday, August 16, 2016  graveside at New Hope Cemetery, Spiro, OK with Jim Cook officiating. 

      The family will be at the chapel in Pocola on Monday evening from 6-8 pm to visit with relatives & friends.

Jackie Whiteaker



  Jackie Craig Whiteaker was born February 11, 1932 in Fort Smith, Arkansas, and went to be with the Lord on August 12, 2016, at St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  Jackie was preceded in death by her child Billie Floyd Whiteaker II,  by her father Jack Craig of Cookson, Oklahoma, mother Wilma McCormick of Temple, Texas, and by her brother Rev. Bob Craig and wife Lela of Branch, Arkansas, and sisters Shirley Craig Joyce and Linda Kay Craig, both of Grove, Oklahoma. 

       Jackie is survived by her devoted husband Billie Floyd (Bill) Whiteaker of Panama, Oklahoma.  She leaves behind five beloved children, Gary Whiteaker and wife Georgia, of Enid Oklahoma, Carol Whiteaker Harrison and husband Jim of Nacogdoches/Houston, Texas, Susan Whiteaker Bevil of Panama, Oklahoma, Steve Whiteaker of Conway, Arkansas, and John Whiteaker and wife Kim, of Panama, Oklahoma; with 13 grandchildren:  Joey Whiteaker (and wife Macy) of Enid, Oklahoma, Shae Harrison Wilson (and husband Mike) of Houston, Texas, Lori Harrison Reichardt (and husband Chris) of The Woodlands, Texas, Justin Phillips of Panama, Oklahoma, Andrew Bevil (and wife Kagen) of Panama, Oklahoma, Ashley Bevil of Panama, Oklahoma;  Wylie Whiteaker (and wife Nicole), Luke Whiteaker & Max Whiteaker of Conway, Arkansas;  Sierra, Benjamin, Gabrielle and Maci Whiteaker of Panama, Oklahoma;  9 great-grandchildren and other loved ones, family and friends. Jackie is also survived by her brothers Charles  McCormick of Kansas City, Kansas, and John McCormick of Temple, Texas.
       Jackie had a servant’s heart, and her great joy in life came from taking care of others, her helpmate and partner in life husband Bill, her children, her grandchildren, and anyone that she met along life’s way as Jackie never knew a stranger.  She was devoted to Bill, the wellspring of all things good in her life.  She was happiest by his side, working at their Antique Shop in Van Buren, Arkansas or when they were off on one of their many adventures to find treasures for their shop. You could often find them side by side at estate sales where they both always had a knack for finding special things.  Jackie’s true treasures, however, were her family members.  One of her favorite verses was Matthew 6:21, “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” 

Visitation will be held at Evans and Miller Funeral Home in Poteau, Oklahoma  Monday evening from 6 pm to 8 pm, . Services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Panama, Oklahoma, on August 16, at 10:00 am, with interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery,  Panama, Oklahoma.

Ruger Goines


      Ruger Caston Goines of Shady Point, OK was born May 31, 2009 and passed away August 7, 2016 at the age of 7.  Ruger was a 2nd grade student at Panama Grade School and a member of Green Country Cowboy Church in Wister, OK.  Ruger was a bundle of energy and life.  His smile lit up the room.  He loved his cat "Smartie Chocolate" and riding bikes.  But his favorite thing was playing with his sister Jaclynn.  They were 10 months apart  and almost inseparable.  This little guy will be sorely missed. 
He was preceded in death by his mother April Goines, brothers, Hunter & Remington Goines & Jace Hardy; maternal great grandparents, Jack & Anne Flanary .      Survivors include his father, Scott Goines & sister  Jaclynn  Goines of the home; brother, Ashton Cripps & Macey Baldwin & nephew Jayke Cripps of Poteau, OK; Uncles Joe & Monica Hardy & nephew Jarrett of Van Buren, AR, Justin & Janet James & children Whitney & Justin of Wagoner, OK; Aunt Angie & Matthew Coker & children Megan, Meleia, Ace & Brinklee of Shady Point, OK;  maternal grandmother, Lottie Flanary of Poteau; paternal grandparents, Robert & Debbie Goines of Shady Point;  many loving family & friends.

          Services will be 10 am, Friday, August 12, 2016 at the Reynolds Center, Poteau

Remington Goines



     Remington Scott Goines of Shady Point, OK was born March 16, 2004 passed away August 7, 2016 at the age of 12.   Remington was a 6th grade student at Panama Grade School and a member of Green Country Cowboy Church in Wister, OK.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting and video games.  But most of all he loved God and his family.  Remington was a special boy.  He cared deeply for people.  His goal in life was to be a comforter and he succeeded very well in his mission. He was preceded in death by his mother April Goines, brothers, Hunter & Ruger Goines, Jace Hardy ; maternal great grandparents, Jack & Anne Flanary.
