Minnie Laverne Real “Granny Real” , 83, of Bokoshe, OK passed away Monday, September 30, 2013 in Sallisaw, OK.  Minnie was born September 18, 1930 in Spiro, OK to Everett Sampson & Bessie Hazel (Sage) Reed.  She was a homemaker.  Minnie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Loyd H. Grace Montgomery



Gracie Lee Montgomery, 82, of Poteau, OK passed away Saturday, September 21, 2013 in Vian, OK.  Gracie was born June 26, 1931 in Calumet, OK to Charles & Audrey McClain.  She was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal faith.  Gracie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, J.F. Montgomery; children, George, Bill & Betty Ann; brother, Roy Pounnie.

Survivors include her sons, Charles, Tommy & Jerry Montgomery of  Poteau, OK; daughters, Mary Jane Montgomery of Henryetta, OK, Mary Ellen Amos & Helen Louise Sterling of Poteau, OK; 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchildren; 4 sisters, Erma Jo Knight of Athens, GA, Charlene McClain of Lawton, OK, Kathy Johnson of Walter, OK, Betty Jean Wood of Lawton, OK; brother, Lonnie McClain of Lawton, OK; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Ida M. Clough



Ida Maebell Clough, 88, of Shady Point, OK passed away Friday, September 20, 2013 in Shady Point.  Ida was born November 2, 1924 in LeFlore, OK to Rufus L. & Ada Gwin.  She was a homemaker.  Ida was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Thomas E. French and beloved husband, Emmett Eugene Clough.   Ida was a Christian lady who loved her church.  She loved gardening, sewing, cooking and having family gatherings.


At the age of 18 Ida left home to San Francisco, CA to work as a welder in the shipyards.  When WWII was over she moved back to Oklahoma, met Thomas Edward French and was married on June 4, 1945.  They traveled for 7 years and worked in Lima, OH – California, New York City, Detroit, MI and then Los Angeles where they stayed .  Two sons were born there, Larry Ray and Lester William.  Thomas had a car wreck and died on their 16th wedding anniversary, June 4, 1961.  Larry, Lester & Ida moved back to OK.  Nine years later she married Emmett Eugene Clough, November 2, 1970.  He had a large family (4 daughters & 2 sons).  He died, July 8, 1989.


  Survivors include her sons, Larry French of Shady Point, OK and Lester French of Poteau, OK.; many stepchildren; grandchildren; other loved ones; many beloved friends.

  Services will be 2 pm,  Thursday, September 26, 2013 at the Gospel Tabernacle, Poteau, OK with Rev. Sonny Daniels and Rev. Carl Daniels officiating.  Interment will follow in Summerfield Cemetery, Summerfield, OK.

Roy Sitton



Roy Gene Sitton, 66, of Wister, OK passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2013 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Roy was born March 3, 1947 in  Summerfield, OK to John & Hazel (Gibson) Sitton.  He was a member of the Wister Nazarene Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Laverna Vancietta.  Roy was loved by many friends in the Wister/Summerfield area.  He enjoyed fishing, picking blackberries, watching Wister ballgames.  He loved going to church and attending every event in Wister.

Survivors include his sisters & brothers in law, Freda & Dewayne Clinton of Wister, OK, Ester & Don Patchin of Poteau, OK, Judy & Gary Morris of Heavener, OK, Lois & Mike Brannon of Fanshawe, OK; best friend,  Charlie Heflin; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives & loved ones.

Services will be 10 am, Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Wister Church of the Nazarene with Rev. PJ Atkinson officiating.  Interment will follow in Summerfield Cemetery, Summerfield, OK.  Pallbearers will be Dewayne Clinton, Mike Brannon, Don Patchin, Gary Morris, Cody Morris, Jake Keen.  Honorary pallbearers will be Elton Johnson, Richard Gibson, Joe Mode, Rocky  Makovy. 

The family will be at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6-8 pm to visit with relatives & friends.   They extend a special thanks to Pocola Nursing Center.

Jean Mixon, 88, of Shady Point, OK passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2013 in Shady Point.  Jean was born November 17, 1924 in Jenny Lind, AR to Robert Lee & Fannie (Carpenter) Kiger. Wanda “Faye” Rockman, 71, of Poteau, OK passed away Saturday, September 7, 2013 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Faye was born November 12, 1941 in Poteau, OK to John & Edith (Green) Ford.  She was a retired  administrative assistant at Jim Hamilton VoTech.  She was a member of the Church of God 7th Day.  She was a member of the 1913 Study Club; an artist; and she was “Ma” to many. She was preceded  in death by her parents; brothers, William Denver Ford, Kenneth Ford, & Don Ford.



Survivors include her husband, Robert “Rocky” of the home; 2 daughters & sons in law, Shannon & Darren Burgess of Ft. Betty Jo Gibson



Betty Jo Gibson, 80, of LeFlore, OK passed away Friday, September 6, 2013 in Durant, OK.  Betty was born November 1, 1932 in LeFlore, OK to Oscar & Josie (French) Baxter.  She was a homemaker.  Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Milo; daughter, Sherry Hollan; sisters, Mildred Wilson & Florene Pruitt; nephew, Sam Baxter; niece, Pam Nichols.  She loved flowers, raising kids & cooking.  She always kept everyone in line.



Survivors include her son & daughter in law, Stacey & Julie Gibson of Wister, OK; grandchildren, Stacey Gibson & Justin Anderson  of Cartwright, OK, Michael & Danica Gibson of Red Oak, OK, Rocky & Denise Hollan of Poteau, OK, Tara & Chris Goldsborough of Red Oak, OK; 9 great grandchildren, Chase, Wyatt, Doc, Briley, Hunter, Faith, Jordan, Cheyenne and Aubree : 1 brother, Henry Baxter of Seminole, OK; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

DENNIS ALBERT WELLS




Dennis Albert Wells, 64, of Wister died Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at the Talihina Veteran’s Center.  Dennis was born December 2, 1949 in Elyria, Ohio to Wade D. and Thelma (Davis) Wells. 
Dennis, Lance Corporal, United States Marine Corp, was a Vietnam Veteran and proud of his service to his country. He was a mechanic in California before relocating to Oklahoma where he, alongside his father, successfully ranched for many years.  Dennis was a lover of libraries, knowledge and learning and a caring and compassionate man.  He was devoted to God and is now once again cradled in His arms.
Dennis leaves no family but is survived by his beloved friend Leslie Langley. 
Graveside services will be held Thursday, September 5, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Fort Smith National Cemetery, Fort Smith, Arkansas with the Reverend Larry Strouse officiating.

LaFaye Qualls




LaFaye Qualls, 85, of Poteau, OK passed away Sunday, September 1, 2013 in Oklahoma City, OK.  LaFaye was born February 20, 1928 in Shady Point, OK to Hershel & Blanche Ruby (Williams) Christenberry.  She owned and operated the Merle Norman studio and LaFaye’s Beauty Shop until her retirement.

LaFaye was the oldest of 3 children. She was raised on a farm and was taught how to work hard and respect your parents and God. Life was hard when she was young she had to help with her to younger brothers while her mother and father took care of the chores on the farm. She loved her brothers deeply and considered Eugene (the youngest) to be like her own. His whole life was lived with absolutely no mistakes (as far as she was concerned), the rest of us knew better.

She grew up to be a beautiful, highly moral and humorous woman. She raised two daughters, Pauline and Rita. Life was difficult at times but she was able to always find a way to provide and love them unconditionally.

After divorcing her first husband she met her second husband and soul mate in 1956, Morris Qualls. They remained married until his death in 1999. As a family the four of them became a very close and loving family.

LaFaye’s relationship with God stood strong all through her life. All of her accomplishments were credited to God and she acknowledged him as her rock in all things.

LaFaye is survived by daughters, Pauline Taulbee  & Rita Drake of Oklahoma City, Sherry Knight of Poteau, OK and Judy Nash of PA; son, Jerry Qualls of Poteau, OK; 3 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Services will be 11 am, Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Rev. Jim Cook officiating.  Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery, Poteau.  Pallbearers will be Kyle Dilbeck, Eric Taulbee, Taylor Gilliam, Kenny Morgan, Rossi Christenberry and Blake Podhajsky.

Howard J. Davisson



Howard Jean Davisson, 91, of Poteau, OK passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2013 in Poteau.  Howard was born October 5, 1921 in Elwood, KS to Leslie & Maude (Nolan) Davisson.  He was a master machinist.  Howard was a veteran of the US Navy.  He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Betty Solovich; son, Leslie “Butch” Davisson; 3 sisters & 3 brothers.  Howard loved fishing, woodworking, boating and going for a drive with Deloris.  He also enjoyed remote control model planes.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Deloris of the home; daughters, Linda Jean Garcia of CA and Patsy Ivens of Livermore, CA; 6 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Services will be 2 pm Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Rev. Jim Cook and Charlie Horsley officiating.  Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Poteau.

A.M. "Joker" Sinclair



A.M. “Joker” Sinclair, 90, of Poteau, OK passed away Monday, August 26, 2013 in Tulsa, OK.  Joker was born April 2, 1923 in Poteau to Earnest Austin & Anna Belle (Aydelott) Sinclair.  He worked in construction.  Joker was a veteran of the US Marine Corp.  He served 7 campaigns in WWII serving in the Pacific, fighting on every island where he was injured.  He also served as an MP.  Joker was proud of his military service and of being an American.  He loved to garden growing various things, including watermelon and flowers.  He was a loving family man.  He loved his grandchildren and sitting on the porch whittling.  He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Geneva Gray; and son, Ernest Marshall Sinclair.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Wanda of the home; son, James Ted & Connie Sinclair of Tahlequah, OK; daughter, Barbara Sinclair of Sapulpa, OK; grandchildren, Ernie M. Sinclair Jr., Michelle L. Sinclair, Dustin Griffith, Abby Griffith, Jamie Sinclair Dallis, Lindsay Sinclair; 5 great grandchildren; brother, James Leon Sinclair of San Diego, CA; sisters, Frances Cupp Green and Peg Doyle of Poteau; best friends, Alicia & Anthony Gorman; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

  Martha Elizabeth “Marty” Martin, 45, of Bokoshe, OK passed away Thursday, August 22, 2013 in Monroe, OK.  Martha was born September 16, 1967 in Muskogee, OK to Frankie Dean & Gloria Sue (Blankenship) Livingston.  She was a homemaker.  Martha was preceded in death by her father; brother, David Meeks, and father in law, Clarence Martin.

Rosylin Carol Slone, 70, of Wister, OK passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2013 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Rosylin was born July 28, 1943 in Winnebago, MN to Wayne & Lucille (Neal) Hoppe.  She was a great friend and mother who was willing to help anyone in need..  Rosylin was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Arvid Hoppe; sisters, Arlene Sheehey & Judy Keuster; grandson, Tyler Schoon; and brother in law, Vincent Sheehey.

   Leslie Adkins, 58, of Poteau, OK passed away Sunday, August 18, 2013  in Poteau.  Leslie was born February 6, 1955 in Talihina, OK.  He was a painter.  Leslie was preceded in death by her wife, Lavina Corrine Adkins; sisters, Cindy Orazo and infant, Evelyn; and his parents.   He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

    Survivors include his son, Leslie Adkins Jr. of Poteau; daughter, Evelyn Marie Adkins of Poteau, OK, Rose Marie Adkins of Poteau, Trudy Walkup of Cameron, OK; brothers, Leonard Adkins & Harold Adkins; sisters, Alice Lemmons, Bertha Sanders, Leona Hollan, Beulah King  & Cathy Adkins; numerous grandchildren; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Joseph Haberland



Joseph Haberland, 73, of McCurtain, OK (formerly of Claremore, OK) passed away August 18, 2013 in Poteau, OK.  Joseph was born May 29, 1940 in Glen Cove, NY  to Stanley & Gertrude (Dudkiewicz) Haberland.  Joseph or “Hammer Down” was a heavy equipment operator & a rancher.  Joseph was preceded in death by his parents.  Joe was known as a hard worker and a joker by many but most important to him was FAMILY.  There was not always much time between work and ranching but he always found a way to show his children he thought about them all the time.  It might include a trip, just with Dad, to an out of the way restaurant or a new set of tires so we could travel safely to come see him. Grandchildren gave him new life and reasons to offer soda and donuts for breakfast - a grandkid favorite. A ride on the tractor or fishing with "Papa Joe" was such a special treat that he shared with his grandchildren.  His legend as a hard worker and love for the land and heavy machinery will live on through his kids and grandkids.

Leonard Perkins



Leonard L. Perkins, 79, of Pocola, OK passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2013 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Leonard was born September 15, 1933 in Pocola, OK to Buddy A. & Millie L. (Phillips) Perkins.  He worked in sales.  Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sue; sister, Linda Bly and 2 infant brothers.

Survivors include his sons & daughters in law, Keith & Connie  Perkins and Jesse & Cheryl Perkins of Pocola, OK; daughter & son in law, Donna & Wesley Riggs of Pocola, OK; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Odessa Baxter of Pocola, OK, Kathy Perkins of Kansas City, MO, Lorene Williams of Lawrence, KS; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Services will be 10 am, Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Evans Memorial Chapel, Pocola, Ok with Rev. George Barham officiating.  Interment will be in Steephill Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

The family will be at the funeral home in Pocola on Friday evening from 6-8 pm to visit with relatives & friends.

David Lee Spurlock



David Lee Spurlock, 35, of Sallisaw, OK passed away Monday, August 12, 2013 in Sallisaw.  David was born June 14, 1978 in Colorado Springs, CO to Rory & Lettie Belle (Bailey) Spurlock.  He was a veteran of the US Army.  David worked in construction.  He was preceded in death by his mother and brother, Jermiah Ray Spurlock.  In Loving Memory of my husband AKA “Bubbies” and the greatest father – Rest in Peace now baby. You don’t have to hurt anymore! We Love You!!

Survivors include his wife, Jenifer of the home; daughters, Alexandria and Jessica of the home; father, Rory Spurlock of Wilburton, OK; father in law & mother in law, Rick & Kathy Rainwater of Poteau, OK; brother in law & sisters in law, Jamie & Leann Hobbs of Sallisaw, OK, Sonya Hardesty of Champaign, IL; nieces & nephews, Jordan, Shelby & Taia Hobbs,  Josh & Randi Carter, Staci Wheeler; numerous aunts, uncles, other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Services will be 1 pm, Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Rev. Jim Cook officiating.  Interment will follow in Red Oak Cemetery, Red Oak, OK. Pallbearers will be Jamie Hobbs, Jordan Hobbs, Josh Carter, John Huff, Carlton Williamson & Daniel Dodd.

Mary Lou House



Mary Lou House, 69, of Heavener, OK passed away Sunday, August 11, 2013 in Heavener.  Mary was born July 24, 1944 in Big Cedar, OK to James Lewis & Allie Elizabeth (Roberts) Branscum.  She was a dietary specialist at EOMC.  Mary was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jeffery Stewart;  5 sisters and 2 brothers.

Survivors include her son & daughter in law, Brian & Lori Stewart of Mead, OK; grandchildren, Jeffery Stewart, Jennifer & Lake Chambers, Jessica Stewart; sisters, Helen Lowe of Page, OK, Joyce Smith of Big Cedar, OK; brother, Glen Branscum of Wister, OK; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Services will be 10 am, Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Ellis Chapel Church in Wister, OK with Rev. Clyde Steelman officiating.  Interment will follow in Ellis Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeffery Stewart, Daryl  Morrison, Jason Morrison, Bobby Heavener, Bobby Joe Heavener, Brandon Heavener.

BETTY SHOCKLEY



  Betty L. Shockley, 77, of Poteau, OK passed away Saturday, August 10, 2013 in Poteau.  Betty was born January 2, 1936 in  Clint, TX to Jesse B. & Bernice (Frey) Nichols.  She was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with her facebook friends and researching family genealogy.   Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin E. Shockley; her parents; and sister, Evelyn Nichols.  

Survivors include her sons, Monte Sr. & Rita Shockley of Poteau, OK, Jeff & Connie Shockley of Poteau, OK; daughter, Mary & David Peevy of Alma, AR; grandchildren, Monte Jr. & Ashley Shockley, Brooke & Paul Mason, Sarah & Levy Adcock, Tyler Shockley, and Taylor Shockley; great grandchildren, Joel Mason, Jenna Mason, Morgin Shockley, and Annistin Shockley. 


Services will be 2 pm, Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at the Oakland Cemetery Pavilion with Paul Mason and  Gary Vancil officiating.  Interment will follow.  Pallbearers will be Monte Shockley Jr, Tyler Shockley, Taylor Shockley, David Peevy, Levy Adcock and Jay Sommers.
