Stella Long



Stella Lee Long, 66, of Poteau, OK passed away, Monday, April 28, 2014 in Poteau.    Stella was born August 3, 1947 in Tranquility, CA to Lee O. & Myrtle E. (Thrailkill) Gleason.  She was a homemaker.  Stella was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clyde Long; great granddaughter, Khairiee Dixon.

Survivors include her daughters, Corey Long of Cleveland, OK, Carol Birth of Ft. Smith, AR, Tina Welch of Cleveland, OK, Wendy Robershaw of McKinleyville, CA;  13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Lenora French of Panama, OK, Barbara Wiles of Gulfport, MS; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends.

There will be a private family service.

Doris Faye Moore



Doris Faye Moore, 75, of Poteau, OK passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014 in Spiro, OK.  Doris was born January 18, 1939 in Braden, OK to Chester & Annette (Carter) Cloud.  Doris was a homemaker.  She was a member of the Church of Christ and past member of the Eagles Spiro Lodge.  Doris loved playing bingo and watching horse races.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Moore and sister, Opal Kennedy.



Survivors include her children, Leisha & Jerry Beale of Poteau, OK, Donnie & Ruth Moore of Ft. Smith, AR, Debra & Kenny Taylor of Poteau, OK; 5 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; sister, Emma Carter of Dewar, OK; other relatives and friends.



Memorial services will be held at 2 pm, Friday, May 2, 2014 in Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Rev. Jim Cook officiating.  Doris will be buried in Oakland Cemetery, Poteau.

Jerry Parham



Jerry Lynn Parham, 54, of Heavener, OK passed away  Wednesday, April 23, 2014 in Fort Smith, AR.  Jerry was born February 13, 1960 in Poteau, OK to Luther A. & Bonita Mae (Guss) Parham.  Jerry was a truck driver for over 26 years.  He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Frances of the home; 4 children, Angela McKay of Poteau, OK, Tammy McQuagge & Amanda Garcia of Heavener, OK, Anthony Parham of Sallisaw, OK; 5 grandchildren, Aleighta, Carson, Hayleigh, Cash, & Jazlynn; his mother, Bonita Parham of Barling, AR; 8 siblings;  longtime friends, Charlie, Mike, “Rego”, Jimbo; other relatives & friends; his beloved dogs.

Douglas W. Aldridge



Douglas Wayne Aldridge, 65, of Warner, OK passed away April 17, 2014 in Gore.  Douglas was born July 19, 1948 to Oren & Dorothy (Monks) Aldridge.  He was preceded in death by  his maternal grandparents, Roy & Grace Monks; uncles, Orlen Ritter, Floyd Sanders, Melford Weaver; aunts, Lavon Swenson, Lois Ritter.

He is survived by his mother, Dorothy (Monks) Pickering; children, Roy Aldridge of Poteau, OK, Dr. Amy & Gene Sanford of Corpus Christi, TX, Andrew & Sue Aldridge of Warner, OK; brothers, Danny Aldridge of MO, Brian Pickering of Wister, OK; uncles, Carl Swenson & Carl Monks; aunt, Bernice Weaver; special nephews & niece, James Aldridge of MO, Terry Aldridge of Iowa, Dee Aldridge of MO; special cousin, Bob Swenson

Services were held April 22, 2014 at Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home Chapel in Muskogee, OK with Rev. Danny Burks officiating.  Burial followed in  Warner Memorial Gardens, Warner, OK. 


Barbara Cheshier




Barbara Louise Cheshier was born Nov. 14, 1939. Prague, OK. Passed away Thursday, April 24, 2014 in Fort Smith AR.
 Survived by her husband Carl Cheshier, Son, Phillip Wayne Cheshier and wife Sharon. Granddaughters Jordan Lee Sanders and Husband Wiley and Jessica Brooke Cheshier. Katie Springwater; Grandsons, Terry & Jordan Springwater;  Son, Ron and Tammy Brown. Granddaughter Mellissa Wilson and her husband Cody.  Granddaughter Stacy and Brian Clinkscale. Granddaughter Kayla and Cory Garretson, Grandson Josh and Jessica Denton. Great Grand Children- Hanna Lee and Zane Clinkscale, Hadley Marie Cheshier, Kendyll Leigh Sanders, Seira, Alyson, Ethen Wilson. Jaxon and Jayden Garretson. Braden, Austen and Rayland Denton. She is preceded in death by her parents Shelby and Louise Brimm and daughter Rebecca Lynn Mitchell and Grandson Charles Christopher Chilcoat.
 Barbara was HR director at Montgomery Wards, She was the manager at Lane Bryant and the Colony Shop. She was a great wife and mother. Barbara was influential in building and maintaining Cavanaugh FWB Church, Community FWB Church, Cornerstone FWB Church, Pine Hill FWB Church in Star City AR and Hillsdale FWB Bible College in Moore Ok. Early in her life Barbra was a hairdresser. One of the greatest things that could be said of Barbara  was that she loved the Lord and sought to do His will in all that she did.  The church was her passion and she worked at it as a labor of love and influenced so many people for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She will be missed by all those that knew and loved her but our loss is Heavens gain as a weary child has gone home.  Special thanks to Paula Kimble who helped so much in the care of mom in the last few months and to Carol Glenn and Sharon Cheshier who took mom to see "God's not dead" which she loved so much.  Mom loved Dad so much and any that knew them, know how much he will miss her as she was his life partner and did everything she could to help and affect his ministry, in a way that would be pleasing to him and our Lord!
Services will be 10 am Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Cavanaugh Free Will Baptist Church, Ft. Smith, AR with Rev. Paul Thompson & Rev. Bob Thompson officiating.  Interment will follow at 2:30 pm in Prague Cemetery, Prague, OK.  The family will be at the funeral home in Pocola on Friday evening from 6-8 pm to visit with relatives & friends.

Carolyn Cozete Carter



Carolyn Cozete Carter, 74 passed away Monday, April 21, 2014 in Celina, TX. Carolyn was born March 7, 1940. She is survived by her husband, Don “HoHo” Carter; children, John Enyart and his wife Mitch of San Antonio, TX; Bobby Anson and his wife Ashley of Dallas, TX; Lisa Northrup and her husband David of San Jose, CA, and Laurie Key and her husband Doug of Bentonville, AR; 11 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and numerous family and friends.

Family came first – she answered to Mom, Mamaw, and occasionally Mrs. Wonderful. She listened…..her strength was leaned upon; her caring and sensitive nature was relied upon, and her open, honest, and out-spoken voice was used to protect those closest to her. She reminded us that Dreams are meant to be Achieved.

One more “swig” when you cross the Red River – her Hugs and Kisses will be missed.

Grave side services will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Shady Point Cemetery in Poteau, Oklahoma.

Elda Mae Walker



Elda Mae Walker, 82, of Panama, OK passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2014 in Spiro, OK.  Elda was born January 1, 1932 in Panama (Poker Bend), OK to William & Rena (Keeney) Darneal.  She worked at Whirlpool.  Elda was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul “Sonny” Walker.  She loved to cook for kids & grandkids and loved to watch them play ball.

John Dixon Self, 79, of Poteau, OK passed away Saturday, April 19, 2014 in Ft. Smith, AR.  John was born February 5, 1935 in Shawnee, OK to Clyde G. & Marjorie (Dixon) Self.  He was  drilling superintendent for Nicklos Drilling Co. of Houston, TX.  John was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Charlotte Pate of Sallisaw, OK.

Omer Lee Adams



Omer Lee Adams, 83, of Caddo, OK (formerly of Poteau) passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2014 in Caddo.  Omer Lee was born October 30, 1930 in Wister, OK to Truman & Vangie (Hawkins) Adams. He was a mechanic.  Omer Lee was a veteran of the US Army.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dema; daughter, Becky; brothers, Howard & Denver; sister, Laverne Moran.

Survivors include his daughter, Cassie Stafford of Caddo, OK; grandson, Kody Blaylock of San Diego, CA; sisters, Lucille Mote of Wilburton, OK & Lorene Upchurch of Edmond, OK; other relatives, loved ones & friends.

Betty Nichols



Betty “Deaton” Nichols, 80, of Poteau, OK passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2014 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Betty was born June 21, 1933 in Poteau to Bill & Blanche Deaton.  Betty graduated from the University of Arkansas with a BS in Education.  She was a retired science teacher of 22 years.  She was an active member of the First Baptist Church, Poteau.  She was honored as Poteau & Regional Teacher of the Year; Teacher of Excellence; inducted into the Oklahoma Science & Engineering Science Fair Hall of Fame; and member of DKG International Society.  She served as an active member of the board & as president for several years at Treasure Lake Resort in Branson, MO.  She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Billie Florence Humphries & brothers, Leon & Jay Deaton.

She is survived by her husband, Ollen Odean (Double O) Nichols of Poteau; children, Richard, Ronnie & Randy Nichols & Rhonda Hargis; 17 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; other family and friends.

Services will be 10 am, Saturday, April 19, 2014 at the First Baptist Church, Poteau with Rev. Clayton Griggs & Rev. Phil McGehee officiating.  Interment will follow in Vaughn Cemetery.

Patsy Lee Johnson, 56, of  Checotah, OK (formerly of Poteau) passed away Friday, April 11, 2014.  Patsy was born in Poteau, OK on November 19, 1957 to John & Oma Lee (Ward) Metzker.  She attended Carl Albert State College.  Pasty was preceded in death by her parents.

Robert & Barbara Montgomery



Barbara Valentine Montgomery, 43, of Red Oak, OK passed away Friday, April 11, 2014. Barbara was born July 20, 1970 in Denver City, TX to Johnny R. & Connie J. (Burdick) Byrd.  Robert Joe Montgomery, 54, of Red Oak, OK passed away Sunday, April 13, 2014. Robert was born August 31, 1959 in Wilburton, OK to Francis M. & Billie (Revis) Montgomery.  Barbara was a homemaker; an amazing cook; loved doing crafts with her grandkids and loved yard selling.  Robert worked for Latimer County as a backhoe operator.  They were faithful members of the First Baptist Church in Red Oak.  Robert had a huge heart – loved to help folks.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and being a family man.   He was a devoted member of his Sunday School class. Both Barbara & Robert loved their grandchildren very much.   Barbara was preceded in death by her sisters, Virginia Marie Hice & Jeannie Lee Byrd.  Robert was preceded by his parents; brother, Larry Montgomery & sister, Tincy Larive.

Buford C. Armstrong, 88, of Ft. Smith, AR passed away Sunday, April 13, 2014 in Fort Smith.  Buford was born October 10, 1925 in Meadowview, OK to  Pat & Evie (Phillips) Amstrong.  He worked at TRANE until he retired.  He was of the Assembly of God faith.  He loved to hunt, fish, garden and he loved his animals.   Buford was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Armstrong; 2 great grandchildren; brothers, Harlen, Aire “Bear” & Willis “Chuck” Armstrong.

Joshua Lee Luecking

Joshua Lee Luecking of Indianapolis, Indiana and formerly of Poteau, Oklahoma passed away on Friday, April 4, 2014 in Indianapolis, Indiana at the age of 39. Funeral services are under the direction of Evans & Miller funeral home in Poteau, Ok.    Josh was born on October 9, 1974 in Amarillo, Texas to Bruce and LaVella Luecking. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Thomas and Geneva Sanderson, paternal grandparents Henry and Rita Luecking, and his aunt Wynnona Winters.

  Josh moved with his family to Poteau, Oklahoma in 1989 and graduated from Poteau High School in 1993. He moved to Indianapolis, Indiana in 2002 where he had been employed as an electrician. Josh enjoyed fishing and helping others.

  Josh’s friends in Indianapolis will have a memorial service in Indianapolis on Saturday 12 April at 2:00 PM at the Pathways 2135 N. Alabama in Indianapolis, In, 46202

  Josh is survived by his parents Bruce and LaVella Luecking, sister Amanda (KJ) Hogrefe, and nieces Kaelyn & Kylee all of Poteau.    Josh is also survived by paternal aunts and uncles  Steve (Peg) Luecking of Chicago, IL, Dan (Jan) Luecking of Fayetteville, Ark, Jim (Brenda) Luecking of Sidney, IL, Nancy (Glen) Kruse of Rochester, IL, Tom (Laura) Luecking of Freeburg, IL, Angie (Dan) Davis of Mascoutah, IL, Glenn (Kelly) Luecking of St.Libory, IL, and Jane (Sean) Hogan of Mundelein, IL. Maternal aunts and uncles Randy (Sybil) Sanderson of Gould, Ok, Gawain Sanderson of Hollis, Ok, Walter Sanderson of Dodson, TX, Katie (Paul) Taylor of Midwest City, Ok, and Joe Sanderson of Poteau, OK.  Josh also leaves behind his cousin and friend Tish Orlet other cousins, friends from Poteau, and his many friends in Indianapolis       Josh struggled in life and lived it his way. His family loved him. He will be missed. May he find peace.

    Visitation is from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday 11 April at the Evans and Miller funeral home in Poteau, Ok. Services will be held on Saturday 12 April at 2:00 PM at the Evans and Miller funeral chapel, Poteau Oklahoma with Nathan Bain pastor of Hosanna Christian Fellowship officiating. Josh will be buried on Monday 14 April in the Dodson, Tx cemetery beside his grandmother.

James Sherman Brown Jr., 90, of Pocola, OK passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014 in Pocola, OK.  James was born June 7, 1923 in Ft. Smith, AR to James S. Sr. & Myrtle (Miller) Brown Sr.   He was a carpenter.   He was preceded in death by his parents; 6 brothers, Weldon, Hampton, Don, Billy Jo & Herbert; 3 sisters, Betty, Lucille, & Grace.

Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Lois A. Brown of the home;  Children, Barbara Milosav, James H. (Bud) Brown, Ronny Brown, Leroy Hager all of Pocola, OK; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; brother, George Brown of Ft. Smith, AR; other relatives & loved ones; many friends.

Services will be 2 pm, Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Evans Memorial Chapel, Pocola, OK with Rev. Virginia Barnes



 Virginia D. Barnes, 50, of Ft. Smith, AR passed away Sunday April 6, 2014 in Ft. Smith. 
Virginia was born September 20, 1963 to Joe & Ruth  Braziel.  She enjoyed crocheting; telephone ministry where she ministered to many people – day or night – even to those she hadn’t personally met.  She was mothering to everyone – calling to check on everyone, everyday, as long as she could – texting when she couldn’t call. She was preceded in death by her father.

Clydie P. Taylor



Clydie Pervelder Taylor, 72, of Cameron, OK passed away Friday, April 04, 2014 in Cameron.  Clydie was born May 4, 1941 in Braggs, OK to Fred Pervelder & Ruth (Jay) Taylor.  He was a veteran of the US Army.  Clydie was a heavy equipment operator.  He loved to garden and fish; playing guitar, and doing leather work.  He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Fredrick Taylor and daughter, Sandra Dian Taylor.

Services will be 2 pm, Tuesday, April 8, 2014 graveside at Royal Oak Cemetery, Poker Bend, OK with Rev. Jim Graham officiating.  Burial will follow.  Pallbearers will be Eugene Taylor Jr., Bobby Taylor, Eugene Taylor Sr., Clydie Taylor II, Eric Sowell.

Dorthy Faye Moore



Dorthy Faye Moore, 85, of Panama, OK passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Dorthy was born April 10, 1928 in Denning, AR to Clarence E. & Clara Bell (Mayfield) Russell.  She was a homemaker.  She was a member of the Silver Haired Legislation, Fraternal Order of Eagles, American Legion, lifetime member of the VFW. Dorthy lived the motto, “We are people helping people”.  She volunteered at the Panama Senior Citizens for many years where she was instrumental in acquiring their first van. Dorthy was also the inspector for the Panama Election Board for many years.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert William Moore; daughter, Francis Ann Fox; her parents; brother, J.R. Russell; 3 half brothers & 1 half sister. 

Survivors include her daughter Nina Johnson & husband Darris of Witcherville, AR; 3 sons, James “Jimmy” Wesley Goff & wife Elaine of Harrison, AR, Robert W. Moore Jr. & wife Carmen of Panama, OK, Teddy Leon Moore & wife, Susan of Greenwood, AR; 13 grandchildren; a host of great and great great grandchildren; other relatives, loved ones; and many friends.

Services will be 3 pm, Monday, April 7, 2014 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Rev. Brian Smith officiating.  She will be to rest at Greenhill Cemetery, Cameron.

Dr. Robert Wayne “Bob” Fields

Dr. Robert “Bob” Fields, 60, of Wister, OK, passed away April 2, 2014, in Poteau.  He was born April 29, 1953 in McAlester, OK, to James William and Elsie Mae (Mankin) Fields.  He was a graduate of Oklahoma State College of Veterinary Medicine; he was a proud Red Oak Eagle graduate; and owner of Okie Blue Sky Cattle Company.

Bob is preceded in death by his father James Fields and a son Brad Fields.

He is survived by his wife Donna Fields of the home, a son and daughter-in-law Bryan and Erin Fields of Poteau; a daughter and son-in-law Beth and Adam Phillips of Wister, OK; mother Elsie Mae Fields; three brothers Jim Fields and wife Linda of Norman, OK, Steve Fields and wife Lisa of Red Oak, OK, and Stan Fields also of Red Oak, OK;  six grandchildren Mackenzie Patterson, Fynn, Graham, and Nolan Phillips, Owen and Eden Fields; mother-in-law Darlene Taylor of Wister, OK; Uncle and Aunt John and June Fields of Red Oak and Aunt Imogene Vineyard of Enid, OK; brother-in-law Eddie Martin of Red Oak, OK; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many more family members, friends and loved ones.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Carpenter, Randy Burgess, Shane Turnipseed, Janaro Diaz, Scott Shadwick, Clint Smith, and David Turner.

Service will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, April 2014, at Cross Community Church, Immanuel Campus, Poteau, OK, with Bro Bryan Fields and Sam Walden officiating.  Interment will follow service at Ellis Chapel Cemetery, Wister, OK.  Services are under the direction of Grace Manor Funeral Home of Poteau.   You may leave an on-line greeting to the family at www.gracemanorfh.com.

Diane Frizzell



Charlotte “Diane” Frizzell, 59 of Howe, OK passed away Wednesday, April 2,  2014 in Howe.  Diane was born May 3, 1954 in Poteau, OK to Milburn & Nadine (Stephens) Shadwick.  She was a homemaker.  Diane was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Dusty Shadwick.

Survivors include her children, Rusty & Suzie Frizzell of Howe, OK, Heather & Wes Lashley of Pocola, OK; grandchildren, Kaitlyn & Jacey Frizzell, Dylan, Jaxon, Ethan, Chloe & Colten Lashley; brother & sister in law, Bill & Barbara Shadwick of Poteau, OK; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives & friends; the father of her children & life long friend, William Frizzell of Zoe, OK.

Services will be 10:30 am, Monday, April 7, 2014 at Poteau Valley Baptist Church in Poteau with Rev. Jim Parsley officiating.  Interment will be in Howe Cemetery, Howe, OK.  Honorary pallbearers will be Michael, Charlie, Brian, Bill & Clayton Shadwick, William Frizzell.

Kenneth "Scott" Sisco



 Kenneth “Scott” Sisco, 49, of Poteau, OK (formerly of Clarksville, AR)  passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Scott was born May 1, 1964 in  Russellville, AR to Kenneth & Ruby Jane (Harris) Sisco.  He was  a metal works production manager. Scott was preceded in death by his mother; his paternal grandparents; his maternal grandfather & his brother, Tracy Lane Sisco.

Survivors include his daughters, Jennifer Marie Kulhawick & husband, Adam  of Fowler, CO, Tonya LaMay Sisco with granddaughter Annabella Jed Marie Sisco of Pueblo, CO; son, Kenneth Scott Sisco Jr. of Denver, CO;  father, Kenneth Sisco & wife, Linda of Shady Point, OK; sisters, Terri Dale of Clarksville, AR, Robyn Lawrence & husband, Royce of Baytown, TX; brother, Greg Sisco & wife, Tamara of Clarksville, AR; maternal grandmother, Mae Evelyn Harris of Clarksville, AR; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives, loved ones and friends. 

Services will be 7 pm, Friday, April 4, 2014 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Jim Cook & Phil McGehee officiating.  There will be a service at 1 pm, Saturday, April 5, 2014 at The Clarksville Church of Christ, Clarksville, AR with Jeff Little & Jake Chism officiating.  Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Clarksville, AR.  Pallbearers will be Alex Dale, Greg Sisco, Dean Pitts, Kevin Mills, Ken Sisco, Ian Parker, Alisa Parrott. 

The family will be at the church from 10-12 Saturday for visitation prior to the service.

Patricia Roberta "Tommie" Ragland



Patricia Roberta “Tommie” Ragland, 89, of Poteau, OK passed away Monday, March 31, 2014 in Poteau.  Tommie was born September 14, 1924 in LeFlore, OK to Edmond H. & Clara B. (Fulton) Kennedy.  She was retired from Dixie Cup in Ft. Smith, AR and worked as a teachers aide and secretary at Talihina Schools.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Poteau.  Tommie was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh & Bea Kennedy; brother, Hugh Jr.; and sister, Sue Dutton.



Survivors include her husband, Doyle of the home; sons & their wives, Jimmy & Dottie Ragland of Apache Junction, AZ, Ronald & Pat Ragland of Vian, OK; 4 grandchildren, Tracy, Forest, Heath & Erin; 8 great grandchildren; sister & brothers in law, Martha & Harvey Walden of LeFlore, OK, Harold Dutton of Poteau.



Services will be 10 am Friday, April 4, 2014 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau with Rev. Phil McGehee officiating.  Interment will follow in LeFlore Cemetery, LeFlore, OK.  Pallbearers will be Tracy Ragland, Forest Ragland, Heath Ragland, Ray Brown, Robert Dutton, & Dewayne Walden.



The family will be at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5-7 pm to visit with relatives & friends.
