George Higgins



George Robert Higgins, 84 of Wilburton, OK passed away Saturday, February 13, 2016 in Wilburton.  George was born August 22, 1931 in Wilburton, OK the 3rd of 4 children born to Daniel and Annie Lucy (Strickland) Higgins.  Annie Lucy died when George was very young and he was sent to a Catholic Orphanage in Bethany, OK.  George returned to Wilburton when he was 14 and lived with his dad & brother Patrick until their passing.  Then he was on his own.  George served his country for a short  while as a member of the National Guard, stationed in Ft. Sill, Lawton, OK.  George spent most of his working years with Wylie Burke and Denver Jones in their numerous business holdings.  George was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Daniel Jr. and Patrick.  George was an avid fan of EOSC basketball and is remembered by many standing on the east end of the gym floor during most games for many years.

Survivors include his brother, Edward Higgins; numerous nieces & nephews; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Rosary services will be held 6 pm, Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wilburton, OK led by Deacon Mickey Bradley.  Mass of Christian burial will be 10 am, Wednesday, February 17, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church celebrated by Father Khiet Nguyen.  Burial will be in Memorial Garden Cemetery,  Wilburton, OK.  Pallbearers will be Jim Grego, David Maggi, Leonard Zeeman, David Donoley, Fred James and Othello Rowland.
