Mae Davis Slavens, 78, of
Poteau, OK passed away Sunday, December 27, 2015 in Ft. Smith, AR. Mae was born May 20, 1937 in Cameron, OK to
Willie L. & Grace E. (Gipson) Davis.
She married Albert O. Slavens on February 26, 1956. She had a Masters of Early Childhood from
Northeastern State University. Mae was a teacher at Poteau Public Schools
from 1977-2000. She was a member of the Poteau Eastern Star Chapter and Oklahoma Education
Association. She enjoyed reading,
crossword puzzles, bowling. In earlier
years she enjoyed playing softball. Mae was preceded in death by her parents;
brothers, Butch, Lee, Doyle & Ray; sister, Colene Wagner; and daughter in
law, LaDonna Slavens.
Survivors include her son,
Walter E. Slavens of Poteau, OK;
siblings, Demeris Kilgore of Irving, TX, Art & Marty Davis of
Holton, KS; grandchildren, Albert Slavens & wife April of Midwest City, OK,
Sarah Slavens of Nacoma Park, OK and Jason Stephens of Kansas City, MO; great grandson, James William Slavens of
Midwest City; other relatives, loved ones & friends.
Services will be 2 pm,
Thursday, December 31, 2015 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Rev.
Jim Cook officiating. Interment will
follow at Oakland Cemetery. Pallbearers
will be Kelly Cooper, Eric Kirkland, Frankie Brown, J.D. DeLap, Ted Kilgore and
Colby Lowers.
The family will be at the
funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm to visit with relatives &
friends.
In lieu of flowers
donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
She was my favorite teacher of all of them. I loved her dearly. Praying for the family.
