Charles Leroy Curtis, 84, passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at his home in Paoli, Oklahoma. He was born July 2, 1937, in Denver, Colorado to Clyde Franklin Curtis and Pearl Vesta (Buckner) Curtis. Charles was united in marriage to Noma Waunema Lee on December 26, 1960, at Southside Baptist Church in Poteau, Oklahoma. They made their home in Conway Springs, Kansas, where they raised two daughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Pearl, and one grandson, Devan Charles Heineken. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Noma Curtis; two daughters, Frankie Lynn Duncan (Tim) and Sherrie Denise Jones (Mike Mayabb); two sisters, Betty Pickle (Ralph) and Ann Goins (Ken); six grandchildren, Heavanly, Stephanie, Tiffany (Cody), Dustin, Andrew, Angelena; 14 great-grandchildren; and many other loved relatives.
Charles worked for the City of Conway Springs and Kerry’s Phillips 66 Station. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He attended classes at Friends University in Wichita. He was a volunteer firefighter for the city of Conway Springs. He was later employed by Dwayne Reynolds of Creative Construction, Wichita, where he worked for 13 years. He was also self-employed as a painter and carpenter, doing interior and exterior work, building cabinetry and other furniture. He retired in 1999 and moved to Poteau to build their retirement home. Over the years, Charles had been a member of Southside Baptist Church, Poteau, OK, First Baptist Church, Conway Springs, KS, and First Baptist Church, Paoli, OK.
A viewing will be held at Evans & Miller Funeral Home, Poteau, on Monday, April 4 from 6-8pm. The funeral service will be held at Southside Baptist Church, Poteau, on Tuesday, April 5 at 10am. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery, Poteau. Arrangements are by Evans & Miller Funeral Home. Online condolences and guest book are available at evansandmillerfuneralhomes.com.
Sorry to hear about Charles passing away. When I think about Charles I remember him and his blueberry bushes.
