John Burton Chester “JB”, 99, of Poteau, OK passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2021 in Poteau. JB was born June 29, 1922 in Hartford, AR to John David & Winnie Elva (Black) Chester. He was a veteran of the US Marine serving in WWII. He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Free Will Baptist Church. He worked for the US Postal Service. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and taking care of his animals. JB was preceded in death by his first wife, Geneva; daughter, Sharon & son, Gerald.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Sandra; daughters, Lacrisha Southerland (Danny) and Janell Havens (Terry); sons, Glendon Chester (Barbara) and Tracy Canon; sisters, Wana Sue Dobbins and Wenona Winters; brother, George Chester; 15 grandchildren; numerous great and great great grandchildren; other relatives, loved ones and friends.
Services will be 10 am, Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Oakland Cemetery Pavilion with Danny Southerland officiating.
JB was one of the greatest men I have ever known. He was a friend that stuck and knew you no matter what. I recall when he and Sandra were dating and were married. What a couple they made! Heaven's getting sweeter everyday.
ReplyDeleteUncle JB was an amazing example of what a loving Christian man should be. He will be missed dearly by all who were fortunate enough to have to known him. Prayers for Sandy and all the immediate family as they grieve this huge loss.
