John Cody Stephens, 90, of Poteau, OK passed away Monday, March 11, 2019. John was born December 26, 1928 in Roosevelt,
OK to John James & Mary Jane Marie (Hinton) Stephens. John
was 17 when he left Oklahoma during the dustbowl. During WWII he worked in the Richmond
shipyards. John worked in the Dairy farms in Gilroy, CA
and later as a butcher in San Jose, CA His hobbies included singing, fishing,
hunting, bronco riding & quacking. He
was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Katherine “Katie” ; and his
parents.
Survivors include his daughters,
Bonnie Ellis of Poteau, OK, Carol Bracamonte of Ft. Smith, AR, Bobbie
Frankhouser of Florence, OR & Yvonne Wickum of Isleton, CA; sons, Jimmy
Stephens & Johnny Stephens of Modesto, CA;
14 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren & 17 great great
grandchildren; other loved ones and friends.
Services will be 10 am Thursday, March
14, 2019 at Sugar Loaf Christian Fellowship,
Monroe, OK with John & Shirley Soto officiating. Interment will follow in Monroe
Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his
grandsons, Jimmy, Johnny & Jason Stephens, Cliff Ellis JR., Cody Kolevris
& Ameur BenAmor. The family will be
at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm to visit with relatives
& friends.
Please accept my sincere sympathies in the loss of your father and grandfather. Psalms 147:3 says of Almighty God: "He heals the brokenhearted, He binds up their wounds." One way he will accomplish this is by raising our beloved ones back to life on a paradise earth. (John 5:28,29; Acts 24:15) May thoughts of this and the memories you have of your loved one help you through this difficult time.
