Walter Gene Steele, 80, of
Pocola, OK passed away Monday, September 11, 2017 in Pocola. Walter was born January 16, 1937 in Pocola,
OK to Walter & Viola (Kilgore) Steele. He worked for Pocola Police for 15 years; the
Walter Steele Bill is a law named after
him from his police duty. He retired from Weldon Williams & Lick. Walter was a very loving and great
father. He was well liked in the
community. He started the Pocola Football
League. Walter was preceded in death by his parents; sisters,
Barbara Steele & Darlene Newman; brothers, Ernest Coleman & George
Risinger.
Survivors include his wife
of 60 years , Loretta Sue (Neighbors) Steele; 4 children, Mitchell Steele,
Rocky & Sharon Steele of Pocola, Barbie Chronister of Fayetteville, AR,
Misty & James Dunn of Van Buren, AR; grandchildren, Chad Steele, Nikki
Woodrum, Dusty Steele, Patrick Steele,
Cassie Sharum, Hogan Dunn, Seth Dunn, Sydney Chronister; 5 great grandchildren;
other relatives, loved ones and friends.
Services will be 10 am,
Thursday, September 14, 2017 graveside at Woodlawn Cemetery, Ft. Smith,
AR. with Rev. Richard Maness
officiating. The family will be at the
funeral home in Pocola on Wednesday evening from 5-7 pm to visit with relatives
& friends.
Prayers to sue and all the family. Walter was an outstanding person who meant a lot to this little town. Just by the example he lived everyday. Such great memories growing up,so glad our 2 families were so close . He will be missed. Love you all
