Lonnie Dale Brannon



It is with great sadness that we note the passing of Lonnie Dale Brannon, the son of the late Ammon and Jewel Dean Brannon of  Fanshawe, OK.  He was born in Fanshawe on December 28, 1946 and ended his journey May 11, 2016 in the Talihina Veterans Center. 
Lonnie was in Viet Nam when his company was overrun by the North Vietnamese on March 22, 1968,  he was critically wounded.  He was awarded the Army Commendation medal with "V" for Valor.  He also received the Purple Heart.    He received his Bachelor's & Master's Degrees from Southeastern University in Durant, OK and his degree as a Certified Public Accountant from Oklahoma State University.  He worked for Alexander Grant Accounting in Oklahoma City.  He and Dawna taught in Crown Point, NM, Bristow, OK and retired from the Mid-Del School System.  Along with teaching Math, Lonnie was an outstanding basketball coach.  In 1996, he was honored at Oklahoma State University on Education Appreciation Day.  Lonnie was a quiet man with a lot of dignity.  He was highly respected by his students, friends and family.  He will be missed.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Helen Rana Barrett and a brother, Gene Brannon.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Dawna; brothers, Bob & wife Mickie Brannon, Neil & Gail Brannon of Arkoma; aunt, Ruby Brannon of Spiro; sisters in law, Carol Brannon, Janice & Harold Stephens, Glenda & Pat Turner.  He was blessed with numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

Services will be held at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK at 2 pm, Sunday, May 15, 2016.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Poteau Valley Humane Society,  Box 15, Poteau, OK.  74953
