Mavis Gomez



Mavis Gomez, a long-time resident of Brisbane, Ca, Fresno, Ca, Bellevue, Washington and Wister, Ok, passed peacefully, in her home on_June 6, 2015.   Mavis moved from Brisbane, Australia to Brisbane, California in 1947, after meeting her husband Daniel Schoolcraft, in 1945. Mavis worked as a Quality Control Technician, on Spice Island in San Francisco, Ca for 19 years. She then spent several years working as a Head Start Instructor and a customer service representative on Alcatraz.  Mavis loved cooking, enjoying good food, socializing with friends and spending time with family. Mavis had a smile that could light up any room, was always the voice of reason and was described as being the “sweetest woman in the world.” 

Mavis is survived by her daughter Denise Lackey and her husband John of Wister, OK; her son Robert Schoolcraft and his wife Tina of Brisbane, CA; her grand-children Daniel Simkins and his wife Lisa of Wister OK, Barbi Blackwell of Wister, OK, Kyle Schoolcraft and his girlfriend Lorena Zavala of Brisbane CA, Lindsey Schoolcraft-Topete and her husband Hector of San Jose, CA, and Amy Hedin of Bellevue, WA.
She is also survived by her great grandchildren Karen Blackwell of Wister, OK, Cody Blackwell and his wife Britney Pettit, Sarah Pierce and her husband Terry, Caitlyn Blackwell and Daniel Simkins, all of Wister, OK. Her great, great grandchildren Alexis Nichole Ray, Alaina Raelyn Pierce, Aubree Kaelyn Pierce and Mary Margaret Blackwell of Wister, OK. In addition, Mavis is survived by her sisters Jean Gimm and Fae Ryder of Queensland, AU in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.  Also a niece, Frances I. Nelson of Wister,Ok. Nephew Daniel & Janice Foster of CA. Niece Kathy Ortiz & family of Ca. Niece Janice Robertson of Oregon and a nephew Richard & Toni Schoolcraft of Oregon.

She was preceded by her siblings Clifford Ensbey and Vida Gordon of Queensland, AU.
Mavis will be missed greatly by everyone who knew her, as she has imprinted her remarkable smile and joy onto everyone she came in contact with.  We have found comfort in knowing that she is now at peace and that we received the amazing fortune of have experienced 90 years with an amazing mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister and friend. .
In place of flowers it is requested that donations be made to Peachtree Hospice of Poteau, OK.
No services are planned at this time.
