Larry Wayne Marsh was born March 2, 1940 to
Charlie Robinson Marsh and Effie Odisa (Cummings) Marsh. Larry Passed away on
March 15, 2015.
Larry is survived by his wife of 55 years,
Linda, of the home, 2 sons, Wayne and wife Denise, of Tulsa, OK, Billy and wife
Lynda, of Houston TX, 4 grandchildren, Raven and Nicky Marsh Jared and Taylor
Marsh, 4 great grandchildren, and many relatives and friends.
Larry was loved by all. At the age of 18,
Larry lost both legs to a drunk driver. He was helping someone out of the ditch
when the drunk driver ran off of the road and pinned him between two cars. That
didn’t stop Larry. He married the love of his life, went on to college, and got
his teaching degree. He loved teaching. He taught on the Navajo Reservation in New Mexico, and Arizona.
He taught so that every child could succeed. All of the students loved him and
couldn’t wait to be in his classroom.
Larry worked hard all of his life, in spite of always being in pain. He
never complained, and someone asked him, “How do you do it?” and his response
was “What choice do I have?!” He won many awards for his teaching. He won the
Presidential award and received it in Washington
D.C. All of his awards were for
his teaching ability, not for being handicapped. He always said he was not
handicapped, and he wasn’t. Nothing stopped Larry. The Navajo Nation presented
him with a plaque that read, “Handicappable”. Larry always said he wouldn’t
live beyond 50 years of age, but God had other plans for him. He made it to his
75th birthday. He always had a big smile for everyone he came
across.
He
and his wife wrote and published a book about his life. If anyone wants one,
they are available free of charge, just ask his wife.

ReplyDeleteLinda and family - So sorry to hear of your loss. Larry lived a full life and certainly served as an example of making the most of whatever life deals you. We hope you find God's comfort. Know you are all in our prayers.
ReplyDeleteLynda, Our Hearts are soooo Heavy for you and the boys. We remember such great times we had with Larry, you and the boys. Larry was truly a "ONE OF A KIND" Teacher/Educator. Eastern Navajo Agency Education, Dzilt na o dith hle and Navajo were all made EXCELLENT because of Larry and his dedication and influence. The Navajo students he "touched" were forever enriched and changed. May GOD's Peace and Comfort be with you and family during this difficult time. Our Love and Prayers..Dwane and Bev Robinson
ReplyDeleteLynda, I spoke to Mr. Holman just a few minutes ago and sent them info. He said to tell you that his Thoughts and Prayers are with you and family.
ReplyDeleteWe wish to extend our condolences to the Larry Marsh Family. Larry was a teacher to whom each student was important. He worked hard to make each students academic life was all it could be. We send our condolences and prayers. Terry and Rita Greiman
ReplyDeleteMy condolences to Mr. Marsh's family. It was very sad to hear of his passing. I had Mr. Marsh as my 7th and 8th grade teacher at Dzilth-na-o-dith-hle back in the early 80s. I had reached out to him in the late 90s and lost touch with him after he left Farmington, NM. I made several attempts to locate him but did not have any luck. It saddens me that I was not able to speak to him one last time to thank him for motivating me after leaving Jr. High school into high school and on into the military. He definitely was the greatest teacher ever with his wonderful sense of humor and as an inspirational teacher. My heart does go out to the his family and all the students who adored him such as myself. Rest in paradise Mr. Marsh, you will be greatly missed.
ReplyDeleteBlessings of comfort Mrs Linda and family.💖 Mr Marsh brought and taught myself and many Navajo children at Dzilth Na O Dith Hle School. Thank you and you are missed. I love you Mr Marsh and Mrs Linda.

Annie Jo Krivokapich (Mrs. K)
To the Marsh family - My sympathies for your loss.
ReplyDeleteMy name is Jeremiah Beyale and Mr. Marsh was my teacher in the 6th grade at Dzith-na-o-dthle (DZ.) I can recall the DZ staff as being very helpful despite the environment and lack of resources. Since DZ, I graduated from high school. I earned two Associates degrees and a Bachelor degree. Moreover, I was honorably discharged from the Air Force after 15 years of service.
The reason why I sharing this information is because Mr. Marsh had a significant influence on my life. Mr. Marsh demonstrated to me: caring, compassion, and consideration. As an I adult, I try and model his epitome of kindness. Mr Marsh's work was not overlooked. Thank you for being in his life and allowing him to be in his students' lives.
From the bottom of my heart - you have my sincerest condolences.
Be in peace and live in harmony.
