Cloyis Clay





Cloyis W. Clay, 84, of Poteau, OK passed away Monday, September 15, 2014 in Poteau.  Cloyis was born September 24, 1929  in Gilmore, OK to Vernon & Beulah (Day) Clay.  He was a veteran of the US Army where was awarded the CIB (Combat Infantry Badge), Army Occupation Medal (Japan), Korean Service Medal with Bronze  Star, & UN Service Medal.  Cloyis was an educator/principal.  Cloyis loved to hunt.  He was a great gardener, grafting trees.  He was very proud of his grandson who is pursuing a PhD.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother in law, Troy Riddle & niece, Debbie Mudd.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of the home; daughter, Lisa Clay of Poteau, OK; grandson, Devin Griffith of Pittsburg, PA; brothers & sisters in law, C.D. & Billie Clay of Ada, OK, Floyis & Wanda Clay of Gilmore, OK; sister, Sue Riddle of Blanchard, OK; sister in law, Nancy (Coggins) Butler of Poteau, OK; lifelong friend, Curtis Kelly of Hodgen, OK; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, loved ones & friends.

Services will be 10 am, Friday, September 19, 2014 at the Reynolds Center, Poteau, OK with Rev. Jim Reed & Rev. Jim Cook officiating.  Private family interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Poteau.  Charley Shoupe, Keith Henson, Carroll Hale, Carl Shelton, Todd Peters, Lloyd Lee
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Southside Baptist Church or the Gideon’s Int’l.

  1. The meaning of the life of one person on the planet can be measured by the positive impact their life has on others. The positive impact of Cloyis Clay's life will continue to be measured far into the future as an educator, husband, father, grandfather and a decent human being. He will be missed, but certainly not soon forgotten.

  2. To the family of Cloyis Clay: So sorry to hear of Cloyis' passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of sadness. Cloyis was indeed a gentleman's gentleman and his impact on so many lives can not be measured by any standard. He will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. RIP Cloyis and God Bless You All.
