Joseph Haberland, 73, of McCurtain, OK (formerly of Claremore, OK) passed away
August 18, 2013 in Poteau, OK.
Joseph was born May 29, 1940 in Glen Cove, NY to Stanley & Gertrude
(Dudkiewicz) Haberland. Joseph or
“Hammer Down” was a heavy equipment operator & a rancher. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents. Joe was known as a hard worker and a joker by
many but most important to him was FAMILY. There was not always much time
between work and ranching but he always found a way to show his children he
thought about them all the time. It might include a trip, just with Dad,
to an out of the way restaurant or a new set of tires so we could travel safely
to come see him. Grandchildren gave him new life and reasons to offer soda and
donuts for breakfast - a grandkid favorite. A ride on the tractor or fishing
with "Papa Joe" was such a special treat that he shared with his
grandchildren. His legend as a hard worker and love for the land and
heavy machinery will live on through his kids and grandkids.
