Edna Smith

Edna Martha Smith, 89, of Pocola, OK passed away Sunday, October 9, 2011 in Fort Smith, AR. Edna was born May 27, 1922 in Pocola, OK to James T. & Mary Frances (Nolan) Gregory. Edna was retired from being Pocola High Secretary for 28 years. She also worked at the Motive Parts Warehouse for several years. She and Josh were married for 65 years. She was a member of The First United Methodist Church in Pocola for over 76 years where she taught Sunday School for over 50 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnold “Josh” Smith; mother & father in law, Jack & Rosa Smith; sisters, Beatrice Parnell, Faye & & husband, Gerald Lairamore; brother, Erbby Gregory; brothers in law, Bill Smith & Doyle Smith; granddaughter in law, Shonda Smith. Survivors include her sons & daughter in law, Phil & Terry Smith, Greg Smith, all of Pocola, OK; grandchildren, Phillip Jason Smith of Caulksville, AR, Amber & Brad Wertz of Jackson, MS, Brandi & Jody Brogan, Dallas Smith of Alma, AR; 7 great grandchildren, Joshua Smith, Jayleigh Smith, Branson Brogan, Maggie Brogan, Weston Wertz, Autumn Wertz, Emalyn Wertz; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends. Services will be 11 am, Thursday, October 13 at the First United Methodist Church in Pocola, OK with Rev. Thomas Corrigan & Mike Bryant officiating. Interment will follow in Macedonia Cemetery, Pocola. Pallbearers will be Jason Smith, Brad Wertz, Jody Brogan, Dallas Smith, Ronnie Smith Sr. & Randy Lairamore. Honorary pallbearers will be her Sunday School Class. The family will be at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm to visit with relatives & friends.

    The person who, in my mind, represented Pocola High School as much as anyone. Many thanks "Ms. Edna" for all the encouragment, the occasional lunch on credit when I forgot to buy my ticket beforehand, and the occasional stern look or firm hand when I deserved it!

  5. Ms. Edna was the greatest secretary Pocola school has ever had. She always had a kind word to say and was ready to help out any student that needed it. She was a very sweet lady and will be missed.
