Walter Cornelious "Buddy" Mitchell
Walter C. "Buddy" Mitchell, 84, of Poteau, OK passed away Saturday, January 1, 2011 in Talihina Veterans Center. He was born in Wister, OK on July 17, 1926 to Walter C. Mitchell Sr. & Sophia (Slopman) Mitchell. Buddy was retired from the Poteau Food Market as well as doing other jobs in Wister & Yukon, OK. He served his country faithfully during World War II and fought through Italy, France & Germany. He was a long time member of the First Church of the Nazarene. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Turner; 2 half brothers, Argus Meeks & Mutt Meeks; 3 full brothers, Wesley Lee Mitchell, Dean Mitchell & Doug Mitchell. Buddy is survived by his wife, Lois of the home; 2 daughters, Patty Matthiesen & husband, Larry of Poteau, OK & Brenda Presley of Oklahoma City, OK; 6 grandchildren, Tonya Ann Casey & husband, Larry of Poteau, OK, Trayce Lynn Shanks & husband, Kelley of Ehrhardt, SC, Jay Scott Matthiesen & wife, Carrie of Dallas, TX, Jon Brett Matthiesen & wife, Stephanie of Broken Bow, OK, Mitchell Henry Presley of Oklahoma City, OK, Darla Me Van Hoff & husband, Jon-Michael of Spiro, OK; 2 sisters, Samantha Jean Burt of Poteau, OK and Betty Gedosh of Poteau, OK; 4 great grandchildren, Chloia Van Hoff of Spiro, OK, Lila Grace Matthiesen of Dallas, TX, C.J. Harvey of Broken Bow, OK, Billy Harvey of Broken Bow, OK and Macey Mattiesen of Broken Bow, OK; many nieces & nephews, other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends. Services will be held 2 pm, Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at the First Church of the Nazarene, Poteau, OK with Rev. Kelley Shanks and Rev. Ed Hunsaker officiating. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Poteau, OK. The family will be at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6-8 pm to visit with relatives & friends.
