Burrus Farland "Poose" Martin

Burrus Farland "Poose" Martin, 66, of Wister, OK passed away Saturday, June 5, 2010 in Wister. Poose was born October 7, 1943 in Wister, OK to Jesse Fred & Emma Eunice (Baldwin) Martin. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Marion Brice Martin. Poose was a veteran of the US Navy,serving for 11 years, & the Air National Guard for 16 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wister, OK, where he cleaned the church, mowed, was treasurer & a Sunday School teacher for a number of years. Poose was a member of the Wister Board of Education for 20+ years. He was president of the Wister Alumni Assoc for 34 years. He was a Boy Scout Leader & a member of the American Legion. Most important of all he loved the Lord with all his heart, mind & soul. Survivors include his wife, Linda of the home; daughters, Tammy Martin of Tulsa,OK & Emma Terry of Checotah, OK; son, Robert B. Martin of Tulsa, OK; 7 grandchildren, Dalton Stout, Becca Terry, Jessica Faulkner, Grace Terry, Brice Terry, Nicolaus Martin & Samuel B. Martin; 2 brothers, Duck Martin & Thad Martin, both of Wister; 3 sisters, Nancy Martin & Retta Baker of Wister, OK, Pat Anderson of Heavener, OK; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends. Services will be held 2 pm, Monday, June 7, 2010 in Wister School Cafetorium, Wister, OK with Rev. Robert VanHouse and Rev. P.J. Atkinson officiating. Pallbearers will be Bryan Dodson, J.C. Ray, Mike Gragg, Tony Crockett, Ronnie Martin, Rusty Baker, Daniel Anderson. Honorary pallbearers will be Debbie Brewer, Hardy Coston, Paul Carter, Sam Walden, D.B. Lampkin, Jerry Harmon & Jerry Carpenter. Interment will be in Ft. Smith National Cemetery Ft. Smith, AR 2 pm, Wednesday, June 9, 2010.

  1. We have just returned home and just read about Poose. Our deepest sympathy to the family. Sorry to have missed his service. I worked with Poose many years in the Air Guard. No one else like him. So many funny things he said and did, he kept us all in laugh mode. Again, our deepest sympathy.

  4. Such a caring and family-loving person. He will be missed by all who knew him. Be at peace for his suffering is over now. He is definitly in heaven. Please accept our sorrow for your loss. May God bless and watch over his soul and his family and friends also.
