Joe Neff was born on July 31, 1947 in Poteau, OK. He joined his parents, Bill & Virginia Neff in Heaven on May 14, 2009.
Joe’s legacy of love, laughter, and life lessons will live forever in the hearts of his family, daughter Marie Pitchford & husband Eugene; daughter Shawna Martin & husband Donny; and son Jon Sloan & wife Carla. Grandchildren: Clint, Blake, Bryce, Brody, Wyatt, Dawson, & Sadie. The mother of his children, Shirley Nichols Neff. Siblings: Billy, Barbara, Tom, & Jerry. Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives & loved ones, and so many friends it would be impossible to count them all.
Joe loved the outdoors. On Sundays, he could often be found driving his jeep in the mountains. He had a deep appreciation for the natural landscape that could only be found off the beaten path. Joe took every opportunity to enjoy the scenery on horseback.
Joe was a man of many talents. Over his lifetime, he was a member of the National Guard, a home builder, an ironworker, a business owner, and most of all, the best dad in the entire world.
His greatest occupation was his ability to see the good in everyone and instill in others the desire to be a better person.
Life will never be the same without Joe but, but if you were fortunate enough to know him your life had already been changed.
Funeral services for Joe will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at Springhill Baptist Church in Monroe with internment following the services at Oakland Cemetery in Poteau, OK. Pallbearers will be Tom Neff, Jerry Neff, Wesley Neff, John Newell, Scott Griffis, & Steve Jenkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Jon Sloan, Jay Hill, Duane Donaho, Mel Ross, Bryon Kinsey, Jimmy Meisenheimer, Coopy White, Stan Jenkins, Frank Nichols, Sr. & Lucky Graham.
If preferable to flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joe’s name to the Oklahoma Violent Crime Victim’s Fund.

ReplyDeleteThere are no words that anyone can say at a time like this except that I am truly sorry about the loss of of Joe.He was a man that if you ever met him you would never forget I am just thankful that I knew the man he was I remember every time I went to the bar by myself or with a crowd he would say "you are so beautiful you really brighten up the place you need to come more often" he was the most genuine person I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and I will miss him.

Joe's welcoming smile and encouraging words will be missed by all. I am thankful to have known such a warm and wonderful person. May he rest in peace knowing how many lives he has touched.

You always treated everyone like they were something special.You truely were a one in a million!You touched so many people just by being yourself!This world will always have a black spot in it b/c of OUR loss of YOU..so senseless.. not fair and no way justified.. THE LONGBRANCH WAS THE FIRST BAR I EVER WENT TO, THE FIRST PLACE I EVER SANG KARAOKE, AND THE PLACE I LEARNED TO 2~STEP THANKS TO JOE, HE WAS A GREAT TEACHER BUT HE ALWAYS GOT ON TO ME BECAUSE I ALWAYS TRIED TO TAKE LEAD..."NOW DARLIN YOUR THE LADY AND IM THE MAN..JUST LET ME LEAD" ILL ALWAYS REMEMBER THOSE WORDS! JOE TOOK CARE OF ME FROM THE TIME I WALKED THROUGH THAT DOOR TILL THE TIME I PULLED OUT OF THAT PARKING LOT, JUST LIKE HE DID FOR MANY MANY OTHERS! HE WAS ONE OF THE MOST CARING, NON JUDGEMENTAL PEOPLE I HAVE EVER MET, THE WORLD COULD USE A LOT MORE "JOES"!! I WILL NEVER FORGET THE SUMMERS I SPENT WITH SHIRLEY AND JOE. tHEY WERE THE BEST SUMMERS OF MY LIFE.I HAVE KNOWN SHIRLEY AND JOE AND MARIE AND SHAWNA ALL MY LIFE.THEY ARE MY FAMILY. I LIVE IN TULSA AND WHEN SCHOOL WAS OUT FOR THE SUMMER I WOULD HEAD FOR POTEAU. I LOVED THAT FAMILY DEARLY. THE DAY I FOUND OUT THAT JOE HAD BEEN KILLED WAS ONE OF THE SADDEST DAYS OF MY LIFE. JOE WAS A GOOD MAN AS WE ALL KNOW, ANYTIME I NEEDED JOE HE WAS ALWAYS THERE. JOE TAUGHT ME ALOT OF THINGS. WHEN NO ONE ELSE WOULD JOE TOOK ME OUT TO THE BACK ROADS AND TOUGHT ME HOW TO DRIVE. I LOVE HIS GIRLS MARIE AND SHAWNA THEY HOLD A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART.

This is late in coming, but I did not know of Uncle Joe's passing, as I am his brother, Billy's daughter, I never got to know Billy/Bill,or Uncle Joe very well, but had a couple of visits in Poteau in the 80's. Both visits, I got to see Uncle Joe, who truly was/IS one of the kindest men I have encountered to date. I remember (I was 18 @ the time) he took me horseback riding, just me and him. He had a quiet STRENGTH about him. He did not flaunt his wisdom. He knew I really wanted to get to know my dad,and after riding horses awhile, asked if I wanted him to find my dad for me, which was Irony at it's best, because at the age of 7, I found my dad myself when child support, and police could not.I said yes, I would like to see my dad. He arranged it. He was so kind- and SO FUNNY. I did not know him well, but I absolutely remember his kindness, his "smiling eyes", and he was certainly handsome. I remember his daughter, Marie, who I adored, although we spent little time together. She was a doll. My middle name is Marie too. My b-day is in January, and if I remember correctly, Marie's b-day is in January. She had her daddy's eyes, and smile. I do hate Uncle Joe was Stolen. And I do hope the moderator gets this to Marie. I will look her up tomorrow to see if I can help find the monster who stole her daddy. God Bless Their family. ( I learned of Joe's death when I googled my name just to see what came up)
