Lowell Wayne Hicks
Lowell Wayne Hicks, 61, of Poteau, OK passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2009 in Poteau. Lowell was born on May 8, 1947 in Poteau to Lowell Dee & Atha Belle (Sinclair) Hicks. He was a veteran of the US Army; a teacher, coach, & school administrator for 36 years before his retirement; and a member of the Poteau Masonic Lodge #46. Lowell loved playing golf. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Lowell is survived by his wife of 41 years, Joyce Hicks of the home; 2 sons, Joel Hicks of Poteau, OK & Matt Hicks of Sulphur Springs, TX; a granddaughter, Emma Hicks of Poteau, OK: a brother in law & wife, Ray & Jannelle Babb of Tulsa, OK; numerous other relatives & loved ones; and many beloved friends.
Funeral services for Lowell were held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 14, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Poteau, OK with the Reverend Phil McGehee & the Reverend Jimmy D. Cook officiating. Interment followed the services in Oakland Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau, OK. Pallbearers were Wayne Hoffman, Ronnie Riggs, Earl Jobe, Jay Hicks, Larry Hicks, Bill Hicks, Wayne Fry, & Windle Harper.

HE WAS A GIANT IN EDUCATION.
HE COULD DIFFENTELY SWING THAT
BAT.........IT WAS VERY EFFECTIVE.
IN LATER YEARS, SONYA AND I BECAME
THEIR NEIGHBORS. AND GOOD ONES THEY
ARE. THREE WORDS TO SUM UP HOW I FEEL- EDUCATOR, MENTOR, FRIEND...

Lowell Wayne was such a special person and loving family member and one of the most "fun" relatives to be around. We miss all the wonderful Thanksgivings we all spent together.

He was such a wonderful family member and public educator. He touched so many lives. We still miss all those wonderful, fun Thanksgivings we all spent together.
