Steven G. Spargo


Steven Granville Spargo, 64, of Wister, OK passed away Friday, May 29, 2015 in Wister.  Steven was born June 20, 1950 in Caraway, AR to Newell Granville & Lela Faulkner Spargo.  He was a master of trades; a big-hearted simple man; among his accomplishments was his patriotic contribution in the rebuilding of the Pentagon after 9/11.  Steven was preceded in death by his parents; son, Daniel G. Spargo;  sister, Glenda Painter & brothers, Terry & Roger Spargo.

Survivors include his wife, Janice  of the home; daughter & son in law, Lisa & Richard Genevie of Poteau, OK; son, Jonathan Spargo of Wister, OK; 3 grandchildren, Brandon, Sarah, and Terrence; sisters, Mary Ann Morris & Barbara Guzowski of Deland, FL, Shirley Young; brothers, Donald, Kenneth & wife Debbie,  Michael & wife Janet Spargo; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Services will be 10 am, Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Stan Fowler officiating.  Interment will follow in Monroe Cemetery, Monroe, OK.  Pallbearers will be Jon, Rich, Brandon, Tele, Barry & J.D.

The family will be at the funeral home on Monday evening from 5-7 pm to visit with relatives & friends.

Zula Mae Garland



Zula Mae Garland, 91, of Poteau, OK passed away Friday, May 29, 2015 in Poteau.  Zula was born October 21, 1923 in Vantress, OK to Sherman Tyler & Mae (Baxter) Walden.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Francis H. Garland; sisters, Lula & Beulah; brothers, James, Farley, Willie, George & Stanley. 



She is survived by her sons & daughter in law, Steven Garland, Stanley & Brenda Garland of Poteau, OK, Christopher Garland of Ft. Gibson, OK; 5 grandchildren, Eric, Travis, Stanley, Grant & Madison; 3 great grandchildren, Rocky, Steven & Eric; 1 great great granddaughter; sister, Juanita Ward and brother Harvey Walden & wife Martha all of LeFlore, OK; other relatives, loved ones and friends.



Services will be 2 pm, Monday, June 1, 2015 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Rev. Jim Cook officiating.  Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Poteau.  Pallbearers will be Mike and Ronnie Ward, Dewayne Walden, Harold Allison, Jim Tidwell and Duane Sykes.

Wilma Ruth Holson



Wilma Ruth Holson, 87, of Fanshawe, OK passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2015 in Poteau, OK.  Wilma was born May 24, 1928 in Fanshawe to Arthur Levi & Virgie Emma (McDonald) Newby.  She was a seamstress for Hamlin Mfg.  Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Holson; infant son, Joseph; sister, Velma Burt and brothers, Ezra & Carl Newby.

Survivors include her daughter & son in law, Sharon Kay & Jack Covert of Wister, OK; sons, William Holson & Debbie Arns of Owasso, OK, Allen & Pat Holson of Poteau, OK; grandchildren, Chris & Tina, Steven & Melissa, Jon & Emily, Nick & Kaylyn, Michael & Kelly, Alicia & Kevin, Schadowah, Schawanah & Orville, Shawn;  17 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren;  other relatives, loved ones, and friends.

 Randi Kathleen Thompson, 30, of Wister, OK passed away Saturday, May 23, 2015 in Poteau, OK.  Randi was born September 15, 1984 in Poteau to Hal Dean & Carolyn (Newburn) Thompson.  She was in  sales.  Randi was preceded in death by her brother & sister, Bradly & Elizabeth; grandparents, Glen & Mary Newburn; and uncle Dale Newburn.

Survivors include her mother, Carolyn A. Davis & husband, Walter of Wister, OK; father, Hal D.  Betty Lindsey, 70, of Ft. Smith, AR passed away Sunday, May 24, 2015 in Ft. Smith.  Betty was born June 11, 1944 in Forrest City, AR to Jack Sr. & Delia Kate (Grimes) Roberson.  She worked for Medi-Home.  Betty was preceded in death by her parents; children, Genevia Diane Lindsey, Karl Floyd Lindsey Jr.;  sisters, Wanda Clark & Mildred Phillips; brother, Jack Roberson Jr.

Survivors include her daughters, Darla & Rusty Archey of Reno, NV,  Kim & Michael Standridge Jr. of Poteau, OK; son, William “Boogie” & Jackie Lindsey of Liberty, OK; grandchildren, Russell & Kayla Archey, Mark “Buddy”&  Austin Standridge, Jody Lindsey, Shelby Standridge, Aaron Lindsey; great grandchildren, Symphony & Carter Archey,  Blake & Caiden Standridge  & Harper Standridge-Lee; brother, Jim & Louise Roberson of Ft. J.B. Riggs



J.B. (Joe) Riggs, 94, of Monroe, OK passed away Saturday, May 23, 2015 in Poteau, OK.  J.B. was born December 15, 1920 in Brawley, AR to John Walter and Ardelia May (Chapple) Riggs.  J.B. was postmaster in Monroe during the 1950’s , worked at Fort Chaffee in the 1960’s and spent five years in Germany in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s – all in government service.  He culminated his working career as an instructor at Jim Hamilton Correctional Facility in the 1980’s.   J.B. had a B.A. degree from Southeastern in Durant and was a member of  the Church of Christ in Monroe.  He served in the Civilian Conservation  Corps in the 1930’s and in the Air Force during World War II.  He was an avid gardener and hosted the Monroe Old Timers’ Day for many years.   He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Hilda and Mildred; two brothers, Walter and Logan and his beloved wife, Bernice (Berny).



J.B. is survived by his sons, Ronald and wife Jean of Monroe, OK; Paul Alan (P.A.) of Hominy, OK; grandchildren, Joseph “Joey” Riggs and Katie of Montgomery, AL; Amy (Riggs) Jackson and husband Dan of Woodway, TX; Jason Riggs and wife Naomi of Temple, TX and Waylon Riggs of Monroe, OK; 7 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.




Services will be 2 pm, Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK .   Interment will be in Monroe Cemetery, Monroe, OK.  Pallbearers will be M.L. Reed, John Reed, Rick Andrews, Joey Riggs, Jason Riggs, Waylon Riggs.  Honorary pallbearers will be M.L. Owens and Charlie Pierce.

Vida Lee Dunn, 82, of Red Oak, OK (formerly of Spiro, OK) passed away Thursday, May 21, 2015 in Fort Smith, AR.  Vida was born October 19, 1932 in Henry, OK to Charles Joseph & Novie Lee (Emery) Seyler.  She was a member of Cowlington First Baptist Church. She and Walter Dunn were married November 12, 1945.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; son, Walter Franklin; daughter, Betty Lou; brothers, Edward & Thirldeen; sister, Vee Eissman.

Joe Paul "Pete" Waddle



Joe Paul “Pete” Waddle, 68, of Shady Point, OK passed away Monday, May 18, 2015 near Wister, OK.  Pete was born July 27, 1946 in Poteau, OK to William Edward & Beulah Mae (Forehand) Waddle.  He worked in construction.  He was preceded in death by his parents and  Keith McSpadden.

Survivors include his son, James Edward Waddle of Poteau, OK; 1 granddaughter; sister, Tommy Lou & Mack McSpadden; brother, Jim Waddle of Cameron, OK; nephews, Mark, Clay and Terry; other relatives & loved ones many beloved friends.

Services will be 2 pm, Friday, May 22, 2015 at Fairhill/Knothole Cemetery Pavilion, Cameron, OK with Rev. Jim Cook officiating.  Pallbearers will be Mark, & Terry McSpadden, David Butler, Justin & Thomas Brown, Heath Baldwin.  Honorary pallbearers will be Floyd & Ricky Butler and Danny Barcheers.

Debra Lee Waddle, 58, of Shady Point, OK passed away Monday, May 18, 2015 near Wister, OK.  Debra was born August 12, 1956 in Kankakee, IL to Lee Edward & Dorothy Marie  (Vanpelt) Thomas.  She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Eric Thomas; and brother, Arthur Thomas.

Survivors include her daughter, Cristie Johnson of Poteau, OK; 4 grandchildren; sisters, Sonja Heinrichs of Fresno, CA, Cycilia Thomas of Ft. Smith, AR, Louise Davidoff of Rudy, AR, Peggy Barcheers of Spiro, OK; brother, Charles Thomas of Bokoshe, OK; other relatives, loved ones, and many friends.

Hazel Jeraldine Yandell

Hazel Jeraldine Yandell, 71, of Summerfield, OK passed away Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002  in Summerfield.  Hazel was born August 5, 1931 in Summerfield, OK to John H. & Ellen (Smith) Fulks.  She married Omer Yandell on January 17, 1947. Hazel was a song leader, loved gardening, fishing and reading the Bible.  She was a wonderful loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.  She loved playing horseshoes, basketball & baseball.  She was always full of laughter.  She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Johnny Wayne Fulks; sisters, Virginia Tilley & Geneva Davis; 1 on and two grandsons. 

Survivors include her husband, Omer; children and their spouses, Lonnie & Judy Yandell, Donald & Pam Yandell of Wister, Geroge & CArol Yandell of Cameron, OK, Ellen & David Adams, Mary & Steve Arbuckle of Duncan, OK, Merdith Atwell & Mike of Lawton, Billie Ann Yandell of the home, Victoria Ann Yandell of Cedarville, AR;  18 grand; 15 great grand; 4 sisters, Alda Davis of TX, Ramona Billings of LeFlore, OK, Edith Nelson of Las Vegas, NV, Diann Chambers of Anacoco, LA; brothers, Darrell Fulks of Cashon, OK, Jerry Fulks of Lone Grove, OK; numerous nieces, nephews; loved ones.

Omer Edmond Yandell

Omer Edmond Yandell, 84, of Wister, OK passed away Saturday, July 16, 2011 in Wister.  Omer was born August 9, 1926 to George Franklin & Lucy (Jones) Yandell.  He was a veteran of the US Army where he served in WWII.  He worked for public works, at a saw mill and as a farmer.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Hazel; son, Billy & grandsons, James Ray and Joshua Duane.

Survivors include his daughters & sons in law, Ellen & David Adams of Duncan, OK, Merdith Atwell of Lawton, OK, Mary & Steve Arbuckle of Duncan, OK, Billie Yandell of Stigler, OK; sons & daughters in law, Lonnie & Judy Yandell of Wister, OK, Donald & Pamela Yandell of Poteau, OK, George & Carol Yandell of Cameron, OK; 15 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; brother, William Yandell of Oden, AR.

Arnold Glen Fox



Arnold Glen Fox, 76. of Poteau, OK passed away Monday, May 11, 2015 in Poteau.  Arnold was born July 2, 1938 in Poteau to Roy Glen & Arley May  (Brand) Fox.  Arnold lived in the Poteau area most of his life and found joy each day.  He will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor and willingness to help others.  He was loved and will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 55 years and family.  Arnold was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gary Fox; brother, Jerald Fox and son in law, David Christianson.

Willie  Amos, 88, of Poteau, OK passed away Monday, May 11, 2015 in Poteau.  Willie was born November 2, 1926 in Murry Spur, OK to Irvin & Fannie (Ransom) Amos.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; daughter, Faye; his parents; siblings, Dorothy Hastings, Ruby Lindsey, Clarence and Thomas.

Survivors include 4 daughters, Sue Hill, Katie Cowan, Ruby Amos and Cathy Real;  5 sons, Donnie Amos, Ricky Amos, Gary Don Amos, Jimbo Amos, Willie “Bud” Amos, Edward Amos;  10 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren & 1 great great granddaughter; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Bertha Ellen Turner, 101, of Summerfield, OK passed away Saturday, May 9, 2015 is Summerifled.  Bertha was born October 29, 1913 in Indianola, OK to Cleve & Amanda (Earles) Pickle.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther; daughter, Clara Hollan and her parents.

Survivors include her son & daughter in law, Harrell & Mollie Turner of Summerfield, OK; brother, J.C. Pickle of Sun City, AZ; 6 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, loved ones and friends.

William Martin Baxter, 47, of Tucson, AZ (formerly of Shady Point, OK)  passed away  Saturday, May 2, 2015 in Tucson.  Martin was born November 1, 1967 in Fort Worth, TX to William “Bill” & Marie (House) Baxter.   Martin was a very kindhearted man that loved his family.  He found peace in wood carving and being outdoors.  Martin was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his daughter, Jessica Baxter of Poteau, OK; son, Travis Baxter of Panama, OK;  mother, Marie Baxter of Poteau, OK; sisters, Linda Sisco  & husband Ken of Shady Point, OK, Shirley Bush of Tucson, AZ, Rhonda Baxter of Kenya, Africa; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces & nephews.

Mary Anne Mendoza



Mary Anne Mendoza, 79, of Howe, OK passed from this life on Saturday, May 02, 2015 in Fort Smith, AR.  Mary Anne was born to Herman B. & Myrtle E. (Nelums) Perkins on September 25, 1935.  She attended school in Howe, OK, married and moved to Oklahoma City and raised her children there.  She worked in insurance, managing a sales office for 18 years.  She remarried and became active in Home Building Supply Sales.  Mary Anne returned to Howe in 1986 when she and her husband purchased the Dr. Dean Home where she lived until 2004.  She was a member of the Assembly of God Church and enjoyed teaching the Adult Bible Class in Sunday School for several years.  She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers, Burgess, Harold and Herman Jr. Perkins; 2 husbands, Floyd Harold Hall and James Kenneth Carr;  her daughter, Kathryn Anne Green of  Hoanaunau, HI and son, Stephen Mark Hall of Wewoka, OK.

She is survived by her husband, Steve E. Mendoza; son, Floyd Hall & wife Cindy of Wewoka, OK; stepsons, Jerry Carr & wife Cherri of Nashville, TN, Bobby Joe Mendoza of Fayetteville, TN;  stepdaughters, Loretta Edwards of Midwest City, OK, Lavada White husband Mel of OKC and Wannetta Kohl and husband Randy of Midwest City, OK;  6 grandchildren; 9 step-grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren.

Donald Armstrong, 67, of Poteau, OK passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2015 in Poteau, OK. Donald was born August 11, 1947 in Poteau, OK to Lucian “Bud” and Nova (Goodin) Armstrong. Donald was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Clarence and Gary Armstrong, and daughter, Amanda Armstrong.

Joe Davidson Bullard, 60, of Cameron, OK passed away Wednesday April 29, 2015 in Cameron, OK.  Joe was born December 16, 1954 in Durant, OK.  Joe was of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include his parents, Derotha and John Hetherington of Cameron, OK; sons, Travis & wife Stephanie Bullard of Montana, and Zachary Bullard of Youngsville, L.A.; 5 grandchildren, Hannah Ross, Christopher Bullard, Aiden Bullard, Gavin Bullard, & Garret Bullard; 3 brothers,  Donald Russell of Cameron, OK, Bill & wife Ann Russell of Cameron, OK, Jared Hetherington of Oklahoma City, OK; sister, Sherri & husband Mike Williams of Cameron, OK; 5 step brother, 1 step sister, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, loved ones and friends.

Graveside services will be 2 pm, Saturday May 2, 2015 at Greenhill Cemetery Pavilion, Cameron, OK with Rev. Lynn Bullard officiating.  Pallbearers will include Travis Bullard, Zachary Bullard, Jared Hetherington, Bill Russell, Donald Russell, & Mike Williams. Honorary pallbearers; Duane Cox, William Frizzell, Jack Garrett, Mike Mason,  David Camp, & Darrell Hetherington.

There will be family visitation at the funeral home Friday May 1, 2015 from 6-8pm.
