Naomi Lee Campbell



Naomi Lee Campbell, 89, of  Poteau, OK passed away Thursday, October 30, 2014 in Poteau.  Naomi was born November 21, 1924 in  Malden, WV to Victor S. & Olive (Campbell) Caldwell.  Naomi was an avid golfer & she loved horses.  Naomi was a very kind person.   She was preceded in death by her husband, Pryce “Pat” Campbell; her parents;   4 brothers & 3 sisters. 



Survivors include her daughter, Irene Hurt of  Poteau, OK; son, Pryce Campbell of Canby, OR; grandson, Pryce Campbell III of Lake Oswego, OR; other relatives, loved ones and friends.



Services will be 1 pm, Monday, November 3, 2014 graveside at Fort Smith National Cemetery, Fort Smith, AR with Revs.  Jim Cook and Pierce Whites officiating. 



In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Poteau Humane Society or your favorite charity.

Robbie Wayne Christenberry, 52, of Spiro, OK passed away Monday, October 27, 2014 in Spiro.  Robbie was born March 23, 1962 in Poteau, OK to Jesse & Ernestine (Long) Christenberry.  He was preceded in death by his  grandparents, Jess & Allean Long, Arlie & Alberta Christenberry;  niece, Becca Carter & great niece, Aarron Walker.

Survivors include his parents, Jesse & Ernestine Christenberry of Spiro, OK; sisters, Janet Smithson of Rock Island, OK, Cynthia Smith of Spiro, OK, Ladonna Whisenhunt of Poteau, OK; brother, Bobby Ray Christenberry of Spiro, OK; numerous nieces, great nieces, cousins & friends.

Dela Marie Midgley



 Dela Marie Midgley, 91, of Wister, OK passed away Saturday, October 25, 2014 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Marie was born March 17, 1923 in Wister, OK to Albert & Jossie (Cherry) Cummings.  She was a  homemaker and a longtime member of the Church of God 7th Day.  Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin Midgley in 2006; brother, Roy Cummings; and sister, Lillie Dame Greenwood.

Dimple Rogers



Dimple M. Rogers, 90, of Poteau, OK passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2014 in Poteau.  Dimple was born May 23, 1924 in Milton, OK to Luther & Grace (Painter) Nixon. She was a restaurant owner.  She was a member of First Baptist Church, Poteau. 
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Andrew J. “Buddy” Rogers; son, Ronald J. Rogers; grandsons, Buddy J. Hughie and Michael Keith Hughie; 6 sisters & 4 brothers.

She is survived by her daughters, Joyce Rogers of Panama, OK,  Deloris Hughie of Poteau, OK; grandkids, Julie Hicks of Poteau, OK, Jenny & Greg Claiborn of wister, OK,  Robert & Julie Meier of Southaven, MS, Denise & Roger Jones of Lubbock, TX, Tonya Rogers of Dallas, TX, Stephanie & Jessie Puentez of Rockwall, TX, Maddie Rogers of CA, Jon Rogers of TX; numerous great grandkids, nieces, nephews, loved ones and friends.

Services will be 2 pm, Saturday, October 25, 2014 at First Baptist Church, Poteau, OK with Rev. Phil McGehee and Rev. Jim Cook officiating.  Interment will follow in Old Bokoshe Cemetery, Bokoshe, OK.  Pallbearers will be Randy Bryant, David Black, Dennis Hicks, Dustin Hayes, Vance Parrott, Waylon Parrott and Jessie Puentez.  Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Jones, Stephen Meier, Joe Henderson, R.D. Cheryl Lynn Travis



Cheryl Lynn Travis (Goins) age 52, of Muldrow, OK was called home to be with our Heavenly Father on October 22, 2014.   Cheryl was born April 12, 1962 in Fort Smith, AR to Ronald F. & Maelene (Lowery) Goins.  She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Eviline Lowery,  Liza Lowery & Robert W. Lowery, Edna Mae & Aurthur Goins; uncle Robert Jr. Lowery.

She is survived by her husband Ken Long of Muldrow, OK.  Two sons Justin and Eric Tankersley of Ft. Smith, AR, one stepdaughter Laveta Travis of Ft. Smith, AR.  Her parents Ronald and Maelene Goins of Branson, MO, her brother Ronnie Goins of Ft. Smith, AR and her sister, Melissa Cantrell of Pea Ridge, AR.   Cheryl was a grandmother of Audrey, Alissa, Mason and Ayden Tankersley, and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10 am Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Evans Memorial Chapel, Pocola, OK with Rev.  Greg Cloud officiating.  Interment will follow in Macedonia Cemetery, Pocola. Terri Ann Ross, 73, of Arkoma, OK passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2014 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Terri was born November 20, 1940 in Waltreak, AR to Clifford & Bessie (Kitchens) Williams.  She was a nurse’s aide.  Terri was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.

    Survivors include her husband of 60+ years, Hann of the home; 2 daughters, Robin Wallace of Lavaca, AR & Charmelyn Brown of Arkoma, OK; 2  stepdaughters, Donna “Kay” Venable of Muldrow, OK, Janice Knudson of Charleston, AR; 3 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives & loved ones.

     Visitation – 5-7 pm, Friday, October 17, 2014 at Evans Memorial Chapel, Pocola, OK.  Honorary pallbearers are Dwight Knudson, Josh Corte, Rick Ross Jr., Bobby Crabtree, Donna Kay Venable, Janice Knudson.  Graveside services were held 2 pm, Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Macedonia Cemetery, Pocola, OK.

Tysia F. Hitcher



Tysia F. Hitcher, 83, of Poteau, OK passed away Thursday, October 16, 2014 in Poteau.  Tysia was born April 25, 1931 in Gilmore, OK to Bill & Lee Ada (Callaway) Hitcher.  She was a telephone operator.  Tysia was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Billie Thomas.



Survivors include her son, Mike Hitcher of Poteau, OK; other relatives, loved ones and friends.



Services will be 2 pm, Monday, October 20, 2014 graveside at Vaughn Cemetery, Gilmore, OK with Rev. Nick Hess officiating.  Interment will follow.

Lee Bowden



  Worth Alee “Lee” Bowden, 48, of Shady Point, OK passed away Sunday, October 12, 2014 in Marion, IN.  Lee was born January 13, 1966 in Poteau, OK to Elmer D. & Latricia A. (Blaylock) Bowden.  He was a veteran of the US Navy & National Guard.  Lee was a truck driver. 



Survivors include his son, Krag Bowden of the home; his parents; sister, Malita A. Voyles of Sallisaw, OK; stepdaughter, Melissa Gilliam of Kansas City, KS; special friends, Lana Lester of Panama, OK; 2 nephews & wives, Troy & Cassandra Moody, Christopher & Megan Moody, other relatives, loved ones and friends.



Services will be 10 am, Friday, October 17, 2014 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK  with  Rev. Jim Cook officiating.  Interment will follow in Fairhill/Knothole Cemetery, Cameron, OK.  Pallbearers will be Ronnie Bell, Earl Hearon, James Atchison, Wes Weaver, Jimmy Cargill, Ronnie Turner, & Randy Lum.    There will be a reception after the service at the Shady Point Civic Center.

George Lemuel McNully



George Lemuel “Poppa” McNully, 82, of Shady Point, OK passed away Sunday, October 12, 2014 in Fort Smith, AR.  Lemuel was born February 22, 1932 in Horatio, AR to Roy “Sammy” & Lucy V. (Moore) McNully.  He was a veteran of the US Army where he served in Korea.  Lemuel was an ordained minister.  He taught school, was a welder and also worked construction.  Poppa was known by his smile – he “LOVED PEOPLE” -  and they ‘loved him’.  He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Leah (Goodwin) Graves and 7 siblings.

Survivors include by his wife of 60 years, Patricia Sue McNully of the home; 3 sons & daughter in law, Roy McNully of New Mexico, Richard & Laurie McNully  of Vancouver, WA, Raylon McNully of DeQueen, AR; daughter & son in law, Rhonda & Boyd Goodwin of Shady Point, OK; 6 grandchildren; 3 great grandsons; 5 siblings, Lillie, Lyda, Lester, James & David; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, loved ones and many beloved friends.

Family visitation – 2-3 pm – Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Bethel Lighthouse Church, Panama, OK with Memorial Service at 3 pm.

William Alfred “Bill” Garrett, 73, of Poteau, OK passed away Friday, October 10, 2014 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Bill was born February 13, 1941 in Poteau, OK to William E. & Edith (Cox) Garrett.  He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Dustin Garrett.



Survivors include his wife, Shirley of the home; 3 children, Robert “Don” & Samantha Stewart, Eric Garrett, Melissa & Carl Ray all of Poteau, OK;  7 grandchildren, Danica & Kirk McHolland, Colton Garrett, Blayne Ray, Zachary, Haleigh, Alexis & Cason Garrett; 4 siblings, Donald Lee & Joanna Garrett, Larry & Kay Garrett, Gary & Brenda Garrett, Brenda & Bruce Parker all of Poteau, OK; other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Arlin Thiral Martin Jr.



Arlin Thiral Martin Jr., 74, of Panama, OK passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2014 in Panama, OK.  Thiral was born March 15, 1940 in Buck Creek, OK to Arlin Thiral Sr. & Estella Marie Martin.   He and Mary Alice were married in 1963.   Thiral worked for the Fort Motor Co. for 12 years,  SW Rebuilders for 11 years  where he  was elected as the teamsters representative on behalf the employees and later served as foreman. He worked at  Arundale for 5 years as supervisor, and finished his career at Panama Public Schools in maintenance for 23 years.  He was a CB Club officer.     He sang on the radio in Poteau,  worked with Royal Rangers in Panama AOG, worked for Civil Defense for 10 years, and was on the Panama School Board for 8 years.   He was an avid hunter.  He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Carl Wayne Martin; brothers, Marvin Lee Martin and Johnny Lee Martin.



Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mary Alice of the home; son, Steven Craig Martin of Stigler, OK; granddaughter, Mallory & husband Caleb Knowlton of Stigler, OK; great granddaughter, Briley Dru;  sisters, Melba Treece of Mena, AR, Shirley Walls of Shady Point, OK; brothers, Doyle & wife Sandy Martin of Heavener, OK, Bobby & wife Gatha Martin of Buck Creek,OK, Don & wife Shirley Martin of Poteau, OK; sister in law, Wilma Martin of Panama;  other relatives, loved ones and friends.

William Wayne Lowe


  William Wayne Lowe, 87, of Claremore, OK  (formerly of Wister, OK) passed away Tuesday, October 7, 2014 in Claremore.  William ws born April 15, 1927 in Wister, OK to Harrison & Otis (McDonald) Lowe.  He was a veteran of the US Army where he served as a Military Policeman for 2 years in the 149th Replacement Battalion.  He was a truck driver.  William loved horses and singing.  He loved his kids, grand & great grandkids; William loved kids in general, even if they weren’t his.  He is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, David Wayne Lowe II, siblings, Raymond, Paul & Lester Lowe, Lois Dugan, Pauline Balentine and Patsy Lowe.



Survivors include his wife Permelia of the home; children, Sally Flores of Laverne, CA, David & Laura Lowe of Fullerton, CA, Roger & Julie Lowe of Claremore, OK; 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren; 3 siblings, Harold Loyd Lowe of Sun City, AZ, Jimmy Dale Lowe of Panama, OK, Shirley Johnston of Indiana; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, loved ones & friends.

Matha Ann Odom



  Matha Ann Odom, 80, of Poteau, OK passed away Monday, October 6, 2014 in Ft. Smith, AR.  Matha was born July 28, 1934 in Latham, OK to John G. & Lois (Sulivant) Bowden.  She was retired secretary for the County Superintendent of Schools.  Matha was a faithful member of Southside Baptist Church.  She loved to play card games (Hand & Foot).  Matha was a wonderful mother, grand & great grandmother who loved spending time with her kids and grandkids.  She was always there when you needed her.

William Dale Sanders




  William Dale Sanders, 93, of Poteau, OK passed away Sunday, October 5, 2014 in Poteau.  William was born March 22, 1921 in Fanshawe, OK to Snowden & Addie (Thurman) Sanders.  William owned and operated a Grocery Store/Service Station Buffalo Valley & Summerfield.  He was a veteran of the US Army, WWII.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Marvin and Eldred Sanders & sister, Juanita Gwin.



William is survived by his wife of 73 years, Verla Dean of the home; son & daughter in law, Rick & Phyllis Sanders of Howe, OK; granddaughters, Sheryl & husband Lester Ford of Wister, OK, Carolyn Sanders of Howe, OK; great grandchildren, Waylon & wife, Tiffany Goad, Shawn & wife Autumn Goad of Wister, OK , Chris & wife Haley Copeland,  Shayne Mead of Howe, OK; 2 great great granddaughters, MacKensie Beason & Heidi Goad; sister, Lueta Brandt and brother, Orval Sanders of California;  special friends and caregivers, Shirley Rana, Chandra & Sherman Stafford, Pat Smith, Annie Davis, Joan & Pete Fultz & Bobby Gilstrap

Larry Monks



Larry Wayne Monks, 64, of Tulsa, OK (formerly of Panama, OK)  passed away September 23, 2014 in Tulsa, OK.  Larry was born at Tahona, OK to Bill & Eveline Monks on July 6, 1950.  He attended Panama Schools, later EOSC at Wilburton and graduated from OSU-Stillwater with an Electrical Engineering degree and with additional degrees from LSU-Louisiana.  Major degrees were coal fired generation and nuclear generation.  Larry enjoyed hunting, camping and fishing with Lawrence Williamson of Panama, his friend for many years. Larry was preceded in death by his father Leonard “Bill” Monks and one brother Leo “Butch” Monks.

He is survived by his mother Eveline (Ward) Monks of Poteau, OK; one brother Leonard “Tom” Monks and wife Margaret of Panama, one sister Donna Hunt and husband Ron of Hartshorne; two nephews, David Hunt and wife Tammy of Duncan, OK; Bradley Hunt and wife Jennifer of Hartshorne; one grandniece Kya; three grandnephews Trey, Jared and Tyler.  He leaves a lot of friends and relatives in the Panama area. 

At Larry’s request service will be graveside only at Greenhill Cemetery, Cameron, OK , 2 pm, Sunday, Oct. 5, 2014 with interment beside his father and brother.  Rev. Tim Painter & Rev. Bryan Fouts will be officiating.

Violet Hobbs



Violet Marie Whitmire Hobbs, 95, of Poteau, Oklahoma passed away on Friday, September 26, 2014, at Heavener Nursing Home. She was born March 11, 1919, in Meramec Township, Franklin County, Missouri.  Violet married Nelson B. Hobbs on November 23, 1940.  She was a homemaker, a devoted mother of six children, and a member of the Southside Baptist Church in Poteau.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Hobbs on November 26, 1999, her parents, Allen and Mary Whitmire, brother, Wilbur Whitmire, sister, Virginia Glasman, granddaughter, Kim Hobbs and infant grandson, Gregory Hobbs.



Violet is survived by her six children, John Hobbs, (wife, Jean), Jim Hobbs, both of California, Bill Hobbs, (wife, Norma) of Poteau, Nancy Stufflebeam, (husband, Ron) of Nevada, Jesse Hobbs, of Arizona  and Velma Cisneros, (husband, Michael) of Florida;  her brother, Everett Whitmire, (wife, Eileen) of Illinois, and her sister, Velma Pfieffer, of Wisconsin, fourteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and other loved ones.  

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Heavener Nursing Home and also to Hospice for the loving, compassionate care that Violet received during the past year.

Bobbie Jo Montgomery, 54, of Poteau, OK passed away Sept. 25, 2014 in Poteau.  Bobbie was born in Red Oak, OK on Dec. 28, 1959 to William Willie & Ioma Lorene (Sutton) Lemmons.  She was caregiver.

  Mildred Lou Easton, 93, of Poteau, OK passed away Wednesday, October 01, 2014 in Poteau.  Mildred was born March 14, 1921 in Williams, OK to William Cleveland & Julia Ann Francis (Owings) Lovell.  She was a homemaker.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin Riley Easton; great granddaughter, Kayla Nichole LeMaster; sons in law, Jerry Wayne Baker & Howard Leon LeMaster Sr.; brothers, Ather Burl Lovell, William Murl Lovell, Earl Cleveland Lovell, Oren Durl Lovell, Dale Wesley Lovell and Vernon Doyle Lovell; sisters, Lillie Beannie Weaver, Willie Victoria Weaver and Flossie Bell Lovell.
