John Clifton Goines



John Clifton Goines, 53, of  McCurtain, OK passed away Saturday, October 27, 2012 in McCurtain.  John was born February 28, 1959  in Bakersfield, CA to Shelby & LaHoma (Burris) Goines.  He was a truck driver.  He was preceded in death by her parents’ children, John “Butch” Goines and Sherry Goines; brother, Leonard Lakey and sisters, Ruthie Goines and Linda Austin.

Sherry Hornburger



     Sherry Lynn Hornburger, 54, of Poteau, OK passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2012 in Muskogee, OK.  Sherry was born June 1, 1958 in Nowata, OK to Bill & Shirley (Spencer) Hornburger.  She was  preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Smotherman; and daughter, Takela Hornburger.

Survivors include her daughter, Brandy Hornburger of Poteau, OK; father, Bill Hornburger of Stillwater, OK; 3 brothers, Joe Hornburger of  Valliant, OK, Bill  Hornburger of Poteau, OK, Randy Hornburger of Norman, OK; 1 sister, Shalle Marie Hornburger of Poteau, OK; 5 grandchildren, Brian, Jeremy, Brandon, Alexa, Christopher; 1 aunt, Alice Fix of Tulsa, OK; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Services were 2 pm, Monday, October 29, 2012 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Rev. Jim Cook officiating.  Interment  followed in Oakland Cemetery, Poteau, OK. 

Gary N. Morgan



     Gary N. Morgan, 67, of Poteau, OK passed away Monday, October 21, 2012 in Poteau.  Gary was born November 9, 1944 in Muse, OK to Wilford & Lois (Rose) Morgan.  He was a convenience store cashier.

Survivors include his wife, Paulette Morgan of the home; daughters, Carol Morgan, Cheryl Bohannon of Poteau, OK; granddaughter, Brandi Shoup; special friends, Katherine lee, Diana Walker, Tyler Shoup, Danielle Walker of Poteau; his mother, Lois Pickering of Poteau, sisters, Virginia Wilson of Poteau, OK, Evelyn Potts of Whitesboro, OK; brother, Curtis Morgan of Talihina, OK.

Memorial services were 10 am, Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau.    


Bobby S. Morgan


      Bobby S. Morgan, 68 of Shady Point, OK went to be with his Lord & Savior on  Sunday, October 28, 2012 in Cameron, OK.  He was retired from Whirlpool.  Bobby was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Pocola, OK.    He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; son, Robbie; his parents, Russell Morgan & Jewell Phelps.
     He is survived by his wife, Mary; two daughters, Ronda Hill & husband, Roscoe of Pocola, OK; Teresa Hensley & companion Tommy Miller of Cameron, OK; stepsons, Eddie Hesslen of Paris, AR, Kevin Hesslen of Greenwood, AR; brother, Marvin Morgan and wife Rose of Pocola, OK; grandsons, Waco Hill of Pocola, OK, Keagan Hensley of Cameron, OK, Tyler Hill of Louisville, KY; step grandchildren, Edwin Hesslen of Ft. Smith, AR, Hope, Hannah and Hunter Hesslen of Greenwood, AR; great granddaughter, Audrey Hill of Louisville, KY; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.
     Services will be 1 pm, Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at Trinity Baptist Church, Pocola, OK with Rev. Tommy Parker & Rev. Richard Maness  officiating.  Interment will follow in Shady Point Cemetery, Shady Point, OK.  Pallbearers will be Tyler Hill, Waco Hill, Keagan Hensley, Edwin Hesslen, Ronnie Ward, Leon Laymon, Steve Doshier.  Honorary pallbearers will be Alan Butler, Danny Minor, Robert Miller, Dennis Main.

      Maxcine Warren, 56, of Poteau, OK passed away Thursday, October 18, 2012 in Tulsa, OK.  Maxcine was born January 19, 1956 in Parkin, AR to John Jr. & Cora Lee (Spencer) Smith.  She was a teacher, counselor, & LRC/Student Support Tutor/Developmental Coordinator for Carl Albert State College Admin. Director.  Maxcine was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Vernell Willis; and niece Angelina Willis.

Maxine McCoy



        Maxine McCoy, 64, of Poteau, OK passed away Wednesday, October 17, 2012 in Tulsa, OK.  Maxine was born October 7, 1948 in Page, OK to Isaac & Cordia (Graham) Jones.  She was head cook at Poteau Upper Elementary for 34 years.   Maxine was dearly loved and was a great member of the community.  She loved to sit on her porch with her grandchildren.  Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin McCoy; her parents; grandson, Jacob “Jake” Freeman; brothers, Leo and Billy Jones; brother in law, Hank Holt.

Alvie A. McClain


Alvie Alfred McClain, 88, of Poteau, OK went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, October 15, 2012 while at the Talihina Veterans Center.  He is preceded in death by his first wife of  55 years, Juanita; one son; brother, Delbert McClain and 3 sisters, Mary, Irene, and Lorene  Alvie was born September 2, 1924 in Alex, OK to Kobe & Willie Mae (Stanley) McClain.  At the age of 17, while living in Dallas he joined the Marines.  He served in the Pacific fighting the Japanese island by island.  He helped in the clean up action at Guadalcanal.  He survived the war although he was hit by machine gun fire and lost his left leg and had injuries to his right shoulder.  After receiving the Purple Heart and Bronze Star, he was discharged and came home to Summerfield  where he raised cattle.  As a Marine Alvie was proud of the Marine flag with the rattle snake emblem and “Don’t Tread on Me” which means, ‘if you step on me you are going to get hurt’ and that was his attitude.  Alvie was a boxer and always said he never lost a fight but did receive a lot of blows.  Alvie was one of the original founders and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter #63 of Poteau.  He served in various positions, loving the position of Chaplin the most.  He also served as the State DAV Chaplin and got the name of Chaplin Alvie “Padre” McClain.   Because he loved his military time he also a life member of the American Legion.  He is and was a HERO of the the World War serving his country giving “some as others gave their all”.

Alvie is survived by his wife, Mildred of the home; son Bruce and wife Yueqiu  McClain of Poteau, OK; daughter, Brenda & husband Matthew Escalante of Poteau, OK; 3 grandchildren, Eric, Jenny McClain and Tony Escalante; 2 great grandchildren, Kayden & Brooklynn Escalante; sisters, Louise Brown of Stockton, CA and Betty Franklin of Prairie Grove, AR; brother, Charlie Sanders of OR and unknown numbers of fellow veterans and friends.

Services will be 10 am, Thursday, October 18, 2012 at the First Free Will Baptist Church, Poteau with Rev. Barry Reel and Rev. Jim Cook officiating.  Interment will follow at 1 pm, in the Fort Smith National Cemetery.

Raymond Glenn



    Raymond Edward Glenn, 70, of Howe, OK passed away Monday, October 15, 2012 in Howe.  Raymond was born January 12, 1942 in Wister, OK to Lawrence Edward & Amaytha (Hall) Glenn.  He was a lifelong cattle rancher and quarter horse breeder.  He always loved telling stories about his life experiences.   Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; several aunts and uncles and one brother in law Charles Lenard

Henry Ivy



     Henry R. Ivy, 72, of Fort Smith, AR passed away Sunday, October 14, 2012 in Greenwood, AR.  Henry was born August 21, 1940 in Spiro, OK to Charlie C. & Annie (Jenkins) Ivy.  He was a factory worker.  .  Henry was preceded in death by, Charlie, Annie (Jenkins), George, Laney, Marine, Edward, Sonny, Aline, and Margaret Ivy; 3 nephews, 2 nieces; and 5 sisters in law.
    Survivors include his wife, Minnie Pauline (Hart) Ivy; brothers, James Ivy of Oklahoma, Don Ivy of Texas; 29 Nieces, 19 Nephews, 25 Great Nieces, 18 Great Nephews, 5 Great Great Nieces, 4 Great Great Nephews; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.
     Services will be 11 am, Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau, OK with Rev. Darrell Brown officiating.  Interment will follow in New Hope Cemetery, Spiro, OK.  Pallbearers will be Nephews,  L.D. Ivy, Jeff Tryon, Anthony Ivy, Jeremy Hart, Brian Vaughn, Kameron Sosebee.  Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews, Joe Hart, Kaden Sosebee, Rob Hart, Barry Hart, John Ivy, and James Ivy Jr.

    LaVerne Ward, 78, of Poteau, OK passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2012 in Ft. Smith, AR..  LaVerne was born December 27, 1933 in Haywood, OK to Earnest Daniel & Mable L. (Pollard) Gray.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hezzy Ronald “Bo” Ward and sister, Earlene Brannon.   She was a homemaker.     LaVerne was a member of the Pleasant Valley Free Will Baptist Church for over 45 years.  She loved gardening & reading.  She loved her church and her family and fellowshipping with them all.
      Survivors include her sons & daughters in law, Ronald & Pam Ward of Pocola, OK, Danny & Tammy Ward of Bokoshe, OK; daughter & son in law, Donna & Tim Sims of Poteau, OK;  4 Grandchildren, Elaina Moran, Danielle Barr, Blane Ward, Samantha Sims; great grandson, Hayden Barr; 4 sisters, Lorene Solomon, Bernice Cole, Willie Solomon, Nancy Dupre; 1 brother, Bill Gray;  her church family at Pleasant Valley Free Will Baptist Church; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Barbara Louise Nichols



Barbara Louise Nichols, 67, of Heavener, OK passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2012 in Heavener.  Barbara was born March 29, 1945 in Wister, OK to John & Pearl House.  She was a homemaker.   Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; 2 great grandchildren, Ethan Meek & Elizabeth Self; sister, Faye Stump; brothers, J.T. House, Nobe House, L.D. House; son  in law, Doug Spears.  Barbara loved life, family shopping and holiday get-togethers.  She was very stylish.  She was a great cook and many restaurants called her often wanting her to come to work for them.

Survivors include her husband, Bobby Nichols of the home;   daughters, Donna Spears of Heavener, OK, Marla Warren of LeFlore, OK, Cindy Farmer of McCurtain, OK; sons, Cliff Davis of Mannford, OK, Mike Davis of Waldron, AR; 12 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; sister, Gaynale Muse of Delton, CO; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Services will be 2 pm, Saturday, October 13, 2012, at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau with Rev. Lynn Bullard officiating.  Interment will follow in Heavener Memorial Park.  Pallbearers will be Mike Davis, Cliff Davis, Gavin Meek, Christian Davis, Michael Davis, Colton Kardokus, Odell Nichols.

Belinda M. Wilsie



 Belinda M. Wilsie, 58, of Spiro, OK passed away Monday, October 8, 2012 in Fort Smith, AR.  Belinda was born February 10, 1954 in Poteau, OK to Jess James & Joella Irene (Pierce) Wilsie.  She was a case worker for the State of Oklahoma Child Welfare System.   She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Teddy Wayne Solomon; brothers Robert Tucker and Jullius Ray Wilsie; sisters Lillie Ford, Marna Dean Ham, Darlene Bearden, twin sisters @ birth Ollie Cordelia Wilsie & Cordelia Ollie Wilsie.

Survivors include her daughters, Amy Williamson & husband, Scott of Poteau, OK, Ashley Solomon of Panama, OK; 4 grandchildren, James Holdman II, Blain Holdman, Makayla Williamson, Brody Williamson; sisters, Deborah Goode of Arkoma, OK, Jeraldine of Oregon; brother, Jessie Wayne Wilsie of Bokoshe, OK; special son, Kenneth Cremeans;  numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

      Lois Olene (Chapmond) Bess, 65, of Spiro died Sunday, October 07, 2012, in Fort Smith.  She was born in Poteau on January 26, 1947 to Archie and Edris “Olene” (Davis) Chapmond.
         Lois is survived by her husband Michael T. Bess; her children and their spouses, Michael  “Scooter” Bess Jr. of Dickson, OK, Larry and Misty Bess of Tonkawa, OK, and Richelle and Everett Plummer of Poteau, OK; her siblings and their spouses, Wayne and Barbara Chapmond of San Antonio, TX, Eunice Kilgore of Sayre, OK, Randy and Angela Chapmond of Davis, OK, and Katie Unsicker of Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren, Joshua & Summer Cassell, Siehara & Kevin Wong, Cody Bess, Kylee Bess, Shawn Plummer, Justin Plummer, Lauren Bess; great grandchildren, Jonah Plummer, Mya Wong, Bryer Cassell; Several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives & loved ones; many friends.                  She was preceded in death by her father, Archie Ceaser Chapmond; mother, Edris “Olene” Flute; brother, Archie “Leon” Chapmond; and great grandson Brant Lee Cassell.

Bobbie Lee Turner Russell



Bobbie Lee Turner Russell,  84. of Poteau, OK passed away Friday, October 5, 2012 in Poteau.  Bobbie was born March 2, 1928 in Fine Springs, AR to Ray & Ida Mae (Dennis) Blount.  She was a telephone operator for Alltel.  Bobbie was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church, Poteau, OK.  Preceded in death by her daughter, Ida Mae Turner in 1958; granddaughter, Lisa Turner in 1992; her parents; berother, Arvel Joe Chitwood.  She loved bowling.  She loved to run around with her childhood school friends, Wilma Lee, Tootie Alfred, Grace Boggains, Mary Joe Logan, and Doris Robertson.
      Survivors include her son & daughter in law, Glen Jr. & Maureen Turner of Owasso, OK; 5 grandchildren; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends and her church family.  Services will be 2 pm, Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at the First Free Will Baptist Church, Poteau with Rev. JW LOVELACE



James William Lovelace, 52, lifelong resident of Poteau, OK died Sunday, September 30, 2012 in Poteau.  Prior to his passing he had been working in the oilfields of South Texas.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Arlene Davidson, stepfather, Wesley “Buck” Davidson, and grandparents, George William and Leona (Henry) Barrett.

He is survived by an aunt Clara Moore of Panama, OK; uncle Luther DeWeese of Dallas, TX; step sisters, Karen Pennington of Hackett, AR, Deborah Baxter of Edmond, OK; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends.

Memorial services for both JW and his mother, Arlene will be 10 am, Saturday, October 6, 2012 at Greenhill Cemetery Pavilion, Cameron, OK.

Norma Walden, age 90 of  Wister,Ok passed away Sunday, September 30, 2012 at
home in Wister.  Norma was born November 16, 1921 in LeFlore, Ok., to Sherman     and Nellie Harris, Dehart.  She was a clerk at Wister Food Market.  Norma was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wister, Ok.  Norma was preceded
in death by her parents, her husband Leo, her grandson, Casey Branstetter, great
granddaughter, Skye Lee Amos, sister, Betty Brooks, brother In laws, Roy Brooks and Wayne Powell.   
Survivors include her daughter and son in law, Susie and Danny Minor of Wister, Ok,  3 sons and daughters in law, Sam and Linda Walden of Wister, Ok, Gary and Darlene Walden of Beggs, Ok, Steve and Laura Walden of Wister, Ok.  14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.  Two sisters and brother in law, Shirley and Sherman Cox of Oklahoma City, Ok and Rosemary Powell of Oklahoma City, Ok, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends and loved ones.  

Services will be held 10AM  Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church
In Wister, Ok, with Rev. Ed Harwood and Will Langrehr and Lamar Ford officiating.
Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Poteau, Ok.

Family visitation will be from 6:30 until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Evans
Miller Funeral Home.
