Bob Everet Roberts, 67, of Poteau, OK passed away Monday, May 28, 2012 in Poteau. Bob was born in Cameron, OK on February 5, 1945 to Willie & Madge Vera (Godwin) Roberts. He was a veteran of the US Army. Bob was a carpenter. Rowene Myrtle Spears, 95, of Bokoshe, OK passed away Monday, May 28, 2012 in Bokoshe. Rowene was born March 9, 1917 in Santa Maria, CA to Chris H. & Mamie (Launders) Kortner. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Christian Church in Santa Maria, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilbur Spears; sister, Betty Shelburne; daughter, Barbara Moorehead; grandsons, Darrell & Joseph; great great grandson, Jacob. Survivors include her daughter, Carol Lovell of Bokoshe, OK; grandchildren, Rose & Wes Young of Pocola, OK, James Lovell of Bokoshe, OK, Dennis & Melissa Lovell of Bokoshe, OK; 11 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; brother, Chris H. Dr. Shawn Kersh

Dr. Shawn Kersh, 41, of Inverness, Fla., died at his home Friday, May 25, 2012. Shawn was born Jan. 19, 1971, in Fort Smith, Ark., the son of Jim and Diana Kersh. Shawn was a graduate of the 1989 Class Poteau High School He was a graduate of Oklahoma State University Medical School. Dr. Kersh moved to Inverness in 2002 from St. Petersburg, Fla., and became a partner at Inverness Family Care. He also served as a physician for Citrus County School Systems with Citrus County Health and Wellness Center for the past two years. Shawn was a coach for the Inverness Storm Football Team. He also coached youth basketball, baseball and soccer. His commitment as a father and husband have been humbling to all those who have known him, and he impacted the lives of many and will never be forgotten. Claudine loved to read the Bible; she was very knowledgeable about the Old Testament. She taught the Bible to hundreds over the years. She loved Jesus, her Savior. Lucille E. Midgley, 86, of Poteau, OK went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 in Poteau. Lucille was born March 7, 1926 in Stuart, OK to James & Pauline (Carpenter) Casey. She was a homemaker. Lucille was a member of the Church of God 7th Day in Wister, OK. She was a woman of God. Lucille was married to Harrell Midgley on October 4, 1945 in Stockton, CA; his devoted wife for 66 years. She was a licensed back seat driver. Lucille was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Lucille was preceded in death by her brothers, Garland, Tom, James & Fred Casey. Eugene A. "Gene" Logan

Eugene Allen Logan, 85 of Shady Point, OK passed away Monday, May 21, 2012 in Poteau. Gene was born January 10, 1927 in Wetumka, OK to Kerb L. & Camie (Holton) Logan. Gene worked for Poteau food in the early part of his life and then was the owner of Gene’s Food Market in Poteau during the 60’s and early 70’s. He worked for Holton’s Supermarket and retired. Gene was a veteran of the US Air Force. He loved to go to rodeos and calf roping and fish in his spare time. His biggest enjoyment was to grow a big garden to give vegetables to his friends He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters, Lavada Sharp, Flora Brown & Ollie Fay Hughes; 2 brothers, Lloyd Logan & Frank Logan; and son in law, Derrail Roland. She was a student at Poteau High School; a National Honor Society Student, Secretary of the FFA, on the varsity Soccer Team. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmothers, Brenda Underwood and Harriett June Holcomb. Lula Mae Myers

Lula Mae Myers, 94, of Poteau, OK passed away Friday, May 18, 2012 in Poteau. Lula was born July 31, 1917 to Clarence & Nellie (Pate) Shrum in Hartford, AR. She was preceded in death by her husband, Neal Myers; son, Jackie Neal Myers, and grandson, Ricky Neal Myers; her parents three brothers & 1 sister. Lula was an elementary teacher for 30 years, pianist, teacher and VBS Director at church, a member of the Poteau Church of the Nazarene. She was an active participant of Compassionate Ministries through music at the Oaks Healthcare Center. As long as she was able, she enjoyed writing articles and sharing them in the Poteau Daily News and Sun. Survivors include her daughter Frances Boevers and husband John; 4 granddaughters & 1 grandson, Debra Myers Gentry and husband, Matt, Melissa Myers Ward & husband, Ron, Stephanie Myers Free & husband Johnny, Ginger Boevers and Nicholas Boevers. She is also survived by 8 great grandchildren, Ryan, Morgan and Rece Ward, Tyler Westerfield, Brittany, Chasity & J.P. Free, Crystal Boevers, Chance Hailey and sister Irene Shrum. Services will be 1 pm, Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Oakland Cemetery Pavilion, Poteau, OK with Rev. Jim Cook officiating. Shane Derrick “Doc” Owens, 30, formerly of Shady Point, OK died Thursday, May 10, 2012 in Orlando, FL. Shane was born December 3, 1981 in Hyden, KY. He was a Paramedic in Orlando, FL, an Iraq war veteran and a Medic in the US Army Reserves. He is survived by his parents, Brenda Shelton of Shady Point, OK and Ronnie Owens of Burning Springs, KY; sister & brothers, Brittany Owens & family, Heath Owens all of Poteau, OK, Christopher Owens & family of Red Oak, OK; an honorary brother, Stewart Eubanks and family of Orlando, FL; along with grandparents, Ronald and Doris Shelton of Shady Point, OK and Abbie Owens Brumley and Walter Brumley of Manchester, KY; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and brothers and sisters in both the Army and EMS with whom he served. Marvin O. Tankersley Jr., 83, of Pocola, OK passed away Monday, May 14, 2012 in Fort Smith, AR. Marvin was born March 29, 1929 in Cameron, OK to M.O. & Jennie (Maple) Tankersley. He was an electrician. Marvin was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; his parents; brothers, Ray, Owren, Alfred & Bud. He was a retired Navy Chief. He also retired from Chrysler-Dalmer Corp. Elton Edward Thompson

Elton Edward Thompson, 86, of Poteau, OK passed away Saturday, May 12, 2012 in Poteau. Elton was born August 29, 1925 in Harmony, OK to Lucian & Minnie (Fouts) Thompson. He was preceded in death by his parents,and son, Larry Thompson; his sister & brothers. Elton was a veteran of the US Marine Corps. He served in WWII in the South Pacific on Okinawa & Peleliu Island; in action in defense of New Guinea; Cape Gloucester, New Britain; occupation of China. Elton graduated from Wister High School; did his undergraduate work at OSU and received his law degree from the University of Arkansas in 1951. He practiced law in LeFlore County for 61 years.Elton was an avid gardener. He always insisted that birthdays must be celebrated with cake and ice cream. Ray "Pop" Albertson

Raymond “Pop” Albertson Jr., 68, of Pocola, OK passed away Sunday, May 6, 2012 in his home. He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Sr. & Cora Albertson. He was a mechanic. Raymond was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. Raymond enjoyed racing at Tri-State Speedway and he especially enjoyed watching his sons race. Raymond was a man who cared deeply for family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Theresa of the home; sons, Bobby Albertson & family of Murry Spur, OK, Raymond Albertson III and family of Pocola, OK; daughters, Mary Bradley of Hugo, OK, Teresa Griffin and Missy Malone of Paris, TX; brothers, Bill Albertson of Texas and David Albertson & family of Pocola; sisters, Mary Boykin of Soper, OK, Helen Davenport, Betty Risley & Gayle Kannady of Pocola, Beverly Wagner of Charleston, AR; 11 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; many nephews and nieces; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends. Raymond was a bright light that will burn in our hearts forever. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

Jimmy Don Scroggins

Jimmy Don Scroggins, 66, of Shady Point OK passed away Saturday, May 5, 2012 at his home in Shady Point. Jimmy was born November 7, 1945 in Oxnard, CA to Roy H & Ida Mae (Brookover) Scroggins. He was a heavy equipment operator. Jimmy was a Poteau High School graduate. He was a member of the Calhoun Baptist Church. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; son, James Scroggins & granddaughter, Summer VanMeter. He and Janice Monks were married January 8, 1965. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Janice of the home; daughters & sons in law, Mary & Leon Laymon of Shady Point, OK, Cathy Scroggins of Collinsville, OK, Linda & Jamey Arnett of Albion, OK; son & daughter in law, Roy & Dawn Scroggins of Shady Point, OK; 7 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 5 sisters, Janet Fox of Panama, OK, Melba Hall of Poteau, OK, Francis Harber of Eufaula, OK, Jean Alice Robertson of Oklahoma City, OK, Nancy Mayberry of Dallas, TX; other relatives & loved ones; many beloved friends. Memorial Services will be 2 pm, Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at the Calhoun Baptist Church , Calhoun, OK with Rev. Steve Hughes & Rev. Jim Cook officiating. Interment will be in Shady Point Cemetery.

Burl Damon Andrews

Burl Damon Andrews, 90, of Poteau, OK passed away Friday, May 4, 2012 in Talihina, OK. Burl was born December 27, 1921 in Booneville, AR to Charles Monroe and Pearl (Porter) Andrews. Burl was a veteran of the US Navy. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Poteau. Burl owned and operated Swiss Cleaners for some 40 years. He was a past member of Poteau Kiwanis Club & Poteau Rotary Club. He received the Paul Harris Fellowship Award. Burl coached American Legion Baseball winning the State Championship in 1967. He was preceded in death by his parents & beloved wife Lavonne in June 2000. Survivors include his daughter & son in law, Carol & Donald Allen of Tulsa, OK; son & daughter in law, Rick & Carolyn Andrews of Poteau, OK; 5 grandchildren, Jerry Don Allen, Kristin Andrews Harrison, Angela Buckner, Tracy Andrews Payton, Charlie Andrews; 8 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Frances Carmen of McAlester, OK, Sandra Palmer of Greenwood, AR. Services will be 2 pm, Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Poteau with Rev. Phil McGehee and Rev. Jim Cook officiating. Interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Poteau. Pallbearers will be Bob Free, Ronnie Riggs, David Robertson, Gary Furr, Kelly Hughes, & Rick Couri.

Jesse Paul Ward, 26, of Poteau, OK passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2012 in Poteau. Jesse was born February 16, 1986 in Edison, NJ to Terry & Beth (Faulks) Ward. Jesse was a stay-at-home dad. Jesse was preceded in death by his brother, John Ward.Jesse built a '86 Ram Charger 4X4. He like the outdoors, fishing and camping. He was the best dad in the world.
